Absolutely agree with the author. This whole bringing-sex-out-of-the-closet thing is such a farce. What purpose is it supposed to serve? Does the Indian populace need sex to be brought out of the closet? What exactly was in the closet in the first place? Does inserting a couple of kissing or love-making scenes actually add anything to a movie? Does it really bring anything out the closet at all? Rebelling against some strange perceived -- what in reality is non-existent -- sense of societal restrictiveness is what we are doing. We seem to be caught up in some kind of curious "promote the new cool India" campaign.

Have any of us growing up in the sex-still-in-the-closet era, or the pre-mid 90s, seriously felt anything lacking in our lives? Is there anything that a gently suggestive, subtle scene of intimacy does not convey (that an out-and-out love scene would)? Do we really admit to a lack of that much imagination?

This is much like Indian authors striving to bring sex into their novels. Such attempts are invariably crude, completely contrived and generally border on the hilarious. Who are we trying to convince and what exactly are we attempting to convince them about?

well Sex is not taboo in Indian inudustry, but we have come across v few ORIGINAL Indian movies wich revolved around say fidelity or Sex without Titillating th audience..
Directors who say that their script demands it is absurd ..hardly has a sensible movie come across in past years which hadnled sex effectively .....
It is only used as a medium to cash in...to create controversies........

Move over..tum , khwaish...etc....You dont stand a chance

sex in films
by m.sundar on Feb 24, 2004 01:47 AM

not only hindi but all movies are in the list. it is really disgusting. people, gifted with an extra sense, should confine such acts to indoors. the film-makers are saturated and have nothing original to offer and take to cheap acts of copying hollywood. india should advance economically. culturally we are the best. such ingredients in films will produce nothing but idiots in the society. the government should take stringent action against the film-makers and ban screening of such films.

Hollywood-Bollywood-Whats the difference then!?!
by Priya on Feb 24, 2004 12:10 AM

If kissing and sex were to come out of closet for Indian film industry, then there will nothing unique left about Bollywood except for the train of songs. Bollywood, leave the "frenching" and "boinking" to Hollywood. Thats not our style.

sir i would likde to comment on all these debates which think the indian alone in this world are fools .when an english movies shows skin , sex, kisses,it becomes the need of movie and they called it classic and when same thing happen in indian movies it is described unnecessary also the indian public are not mature enough to see such movies the white people are more mature if it is so how come the indians produce childs i think they should be stopped from getting married by saying that they are not mature enough

I think that is high time that Bollywood shed its hypocrisy about sex and made movies that were more explicit on relationships. A few sex scenes here and there do not lead to a country of a billion people. Indians are culturally immature. They should be taught the intricacies of love, relationship and sex. A few scenes in popular mainstream cinema aren't all that bad. A society more open to love and relationships would serve as a basis of an eventually better society. Morality in sex is perhaps the biggest sin. People who stress extreme morality should first castrate themselves, and then preach.
