One certainly cannot take away ant credit from a singer like Chitra. Being the first singer at the concert, her song was bedevilled with a bad mic. And for heaven's sake, she does not need to imitate the Great. And dear reporter, never jump to conclusions without ascerting facts or doing a background check.
I was backstage so I know a little more.
Point is - Chitra is an extremely good singer - dont take away anything from her

It happened to Chitra - bad mic being the first singer. I dread to think what would have happened if it was Lataji starting a concert with a bad mic. I am sure quite a few heads would have been on the chopping line. Anyways did the problem occur because the tribute concert was put up on a very short notice? Let us hope that the concert in Indore next year is well planned in advance and that every precaution is taken to avoid the same mistake. And how about a concert to remember in Indore next year as I read somewhere is in the works. A concert not just to celebrate the birthday of the nightingale but also her sister Asha who has been at the forefront of music on a very close level. And for their fans what better treat than for Musicurry to have the two sisters join on stage to present their best , some of their glorious hits as well as the classic duets that they sang together over the years. And with an intro by Bollywood's top stars. I mean why wasn't there a tribute something arranged for Asha's 70th birthday which I am sure is a very important year ?
The comments on Chitra's performance once again reveals the long standing northie domination feeling. Lata obviously is a legend, but gets that crown just by the language in which she sings as well as the political links she enjoys. Chitra is undoubtedly a great singer, who doesn't have to imitate( and she never can do it badly )despite the language wars reached all the reachable heights of indian film music including Hindi. Obviously she has to face such comments from those unable to see a south indian coming to the stage on Lata Mangeshkar's birthday.
After reading the poor review of the concert held to celebrate Lata's birthday , let us hope that Adinath Mangeshkar , President of Musicurry learns some valuable lessons for the event planned next year in Indore and let Lataji sing all her songs and start the concert on time as she has done so always in the past. Who can do justice to Lataji's songs except her?
