regional films from South India and Bengal are always ignored. India would not have had so less nominations had Satyajit Ray, Benegal or Gopalkrishnan was nominated for the last 50 years. Real Sad
Oh my God! Why in God's name was Andaaz even a nominee???? Why can't they try to look into regional movies, they are also a part of India! But one good thing that came out of this is, nothing was selected. Just imagine the oscar group watching any of the above movies..... All the hard work that Lagaan did would have been destryed in no time.............
Why dont we look beyond Bollywood? Anyway, most of the good Indian cinema is made outside bollywood. There are so many great movies - Mr and Mrs Iyer, Matrubhoomi, to name just a few! Who knows one of these may just win an Oscar?
It's funny to see this news... one would be surprised if a film gets selected. Frankly speaking, all the films done this year were.... "UNBELIEVABLY WORSE".
Hi ppl, Why were movies like "Nizhal Kuthu" and "Mathrubhoomi" which are winning awards all over the world not being nominated? Looking at most of american movies, this year, "Nizhal kuthu" could have won the oscar itself if it had been made and released in USA. How in the name of sanity could they nominate "Koi mil Gaya", the stupid film?. Thanks, Jaiganesh
It is really a shame that a country which produces the biggest percentage of movies doesnt have an entry at the oscars. Both the industry as well as the committee which decides on India's Oscar entry are to blame. It would be wrong to say india doesnt make good movies. However, our movie ambassadors need to do a little searching rather than just look at the films which reach them by mail before a specific date. They very well know there are quite a few deserving candidates. How about looking beyond the walls and trying to approach the makers of good movies and convince them to send an entry. The directors, on their part, need to do a little bit more than just making a good movie and getting some critical acclaim out of it. It could be due to the bureaucracy involved that they dont want to take that path. There have been instances when some genuinely worthy movies have been ignored for foolish ones and sent to the oscars. This needs to change. There has to be a little more interest put into this otherwise we will always be known as an industry which churns out only song and dance movies.
