Mohan Lal is the King
by Rajesh on Sep 18, 2003 10:16 AM

Mohan Lal is the king of Indian Cinema. He's is one of the finest actor the world of cinema has seen if not the best. Comparing him with an actor like Kamal Hasan(another great actor) doesn't do justice to him. While Mohan Lal is so controlled and subtle Kamal tends to be very gimmicky. And more over Kamal is a typical Tamil actor. That is he over acts a little bit in all his films. Infact the very own Kamal Hasan has compared Mohan Lal with Geniuses like Robert De Niro and that wonderful french actor Gerard Depardieu. As Mammootty said in a recent interview Mohan Lal is a born actor not a trained one. The man is pure genius. Just think of Iruvar, Vaanaprastham, Amrutam Gamaya, Kireedom and these films can be considered as courses in acting. We should all take pride that we are living in the same era as he does and I doubt future generation would be able to see any one of his calibre.

Last of the Titans

I hve gone thru the comments jotted down by Mr Kurup. I do agree with him in some and disagree in some other. Well i am someone hu grew up with Lal movies and for me Lal is a cult. Since i ve been living outside Kerala and coz of my own chaotic schedule i am oblivious of wats happenin to Lal movies off late. But i can swear on anything that there was noone like him and wont be there either. I hve been hearing a lots of bullshit about the appearance of Lal and all those stories about him being obese and stuff like that, for godsake when have we mallus started becomin finicky about the appearance. Well if tats the serious criteria only Mammooty will be acting in Malayalam films and i dont see any so called stars of the post 2000 era to have ravishing looks except may be Prithviraj.

I will put the entire blame on the industry of not treating a treasure the way it shud hve been done. Lal still has got a lot to offer to malayalam film industry. Its high time some writers and directors take the challenge and offer something meaty to arguably the best actor Indian cinema has seen or else we would be losing out on the some great moments which Mohanlal is still capable enough to offer.

Hi,
Mohan Lal is simply amazing as an actor. He is so natural u dont feel like he is acting. Kamal Hasan is also a great actor but not of Mohan Lal's class. He tends to be very gimmicky of late and he is a typical Tamil actor. ie a bit of over acting in his roles. Mohan Lal's acting is so subtle and most of the roles he'd donned u can easily identify with. He's been compared with legends like Robert De Niro and that wonderful french actor Gerard Depardieu. There shouldn't be any doubt who's the best actor in India now. Its Mohan Lal.
regards
Raj

Mohanlal- a rage; Comment
by Girish M Nair on Sep 04, 2003 02:09 AM

I read the article by Mr. Kurup and enjoyed it very much. Most of his observations and comments about Mohanlal are spot on. However I do not agree with his comparison of Malayalam film actors. I feel that Mohanlal and Sathyan are the best actors to have graced Malayalam movie screens, when pure acting ability is taken as the yardstick. Having grown up with Mohanlal and his movies, my bias is towards Mohanlal. He is arguably the best ever Malayalam film actor. I agree that this is a subjective opinion. But his movies show us his range of emotions, his ability to portray any character and his longevity as an entertainer. I have moved to North America and even now make it a point not to miss any of his movies.I feel that he is not very well known world over because of the limited viewership Malyalam movies have. My only regret is that Mohanlal has not taken care of his body as well as he should have, and of late he seems to have gained a lot of weight. Also I miss movies with Mohanlal and Srinivasan as the main protagonists. Their movies together were the best Malayalam comedies ever. I hope they get together and bring some of their old magic to the screen again.

Why wouldn't you put him in the top slot
by nandu on Sep 03, 2003 06:38 PM

Which other four would you put ahead of him. I have seen Malayalam movies since I was a baby (now I am 35) and I can't think of anyone who is so versatile. Every other actor in Malayalam is just a stereotype.
