Five easy steps to win an international award.

1. Set the film in a dark mood
2. Set the film in indian slums or poor neighbourhoods of villages
3. Make sure you generalise problems.
4. Show india as a poor man's/woman's nightmare.
5. this is the most important step. Make ABSOLUTELY sure that you dont balance the problems with the positive aspects of India.

Shame on you guys. Making a movie about problrms is not wrong. In fact it should be encouraged. but when you are making these films for an international audience, just think a second about the picture u are presenting. Filmmakers and writers like you are responsible for the international image of india. No wonder people mention snakes, snake charmers, elephants and the slums of mumbai when india is mentioned. it is obvious that no indian maker would get international acclaim if his film is positive. try that and then talk about your film making skills and the awards you win. bunch of hypocrites. i would take lagaan anyday over these stupid indian-english films.

Dear,
do you kno that 50% of the indians live below poverty line..even by the way it is defined... but by standards of other affluent countries...the figure is more than 75% below poverty. the amount of rapes commited on indian women which go unreported.... the no. of young children who go hungry everday???/ just because you and i belong to relatively comfortable socity does not mean that we represent india! it is always the masses .. and the worst thing is that we see this majority and poverty everyday but we .. just walk away as if they do not exist.cause we are so used to .. from our childhood.. and when someone tries to highlight it... you are embarassed ... what the foreigners will think.... that is disgusting and shameful!!.. think about it....

What positive aspects are you talking about?Do you really think the problem Mr. Jha is trying to highlight, is not that serious?Go to the villages and see for yourself. That too, after 56 years of independence.

overstate something to drive [home] a point

"They ought to understand that a filmmaker could overstate something to drive [home] a point. "

They (non-indians) belive what you project ... but what you projected contains hardly any thruth ... raising an issue which really does not exist and using that for your benefit, to show your creativity ... getting benefit at the cost of image of country ... shame

Before making such naive comments, I would suggest bujji, that you understand what India is about yourself. What has been presented in the movie, is by no means a "wrong image" of India. The western audiences are not ignorant (like some small indian villages), where movies is their window to the world. They are definitely aware of what's going on in India on the positive side (Economic growth, contributions to technological development and greater issues like that). This sort of a movie is made for people who want to know what's NOT in the news. Its made for people who are interested in what's happening in the depths of India. It is a fantastic presentation of a theme. It is fictional, and therefore exaggerated, but you cannot condemn a producer because he makes the film with his personal touches. Before making such bold comments, ask yourself if you know anything about the darkness in our country. Its movies like these who people like you should value...because they ask you to think about your world. We're a small percentage of priviledged indians who don't find the need to be aware of those under-priveledged.

Image of the country???Our citizens don't even have the living standards of some of our south east asian neighbours but,we have this big bloated image of our country.
We must be proud of our achievments but, also be humble enough to acknowledge that we have a long way to go before we can talk of any image.

One of the primary drawbacks of us Indians is, that we are insensitive to the nation's problems. We believe
whatever the authorities or the media tells us.Also we are impotent. We accept injustices - corruption, for instance - as it is.We don't protest.(SAB CHALTA HAI!).This isn't so in other countries. The U.S may have seen many scams but, people there don't take corruption for granted - they do something about it.

Most of the foreigners' image regarding India has to do with the attitude of Indians rather than the state of the nation.Selfish,self-centered,hypocratic(we never practice what we preach)-that's the image Indians have abroad.
