we will always remember mehmood for his comic roles in hindi films. also to be given credit is for bringing the hyderabadi way of speaking hindi in films. it was very funny to hear it . uttach!
When the author (condescendingly) writes "Southie Flicks", I guess what he says is that these were Hindi films produced by non-Northie production houses. However when he talks about Mahmood's most memorable roles in the films, "Pyar Kiye Jaa" and "Padosan", he conveniently fails to mention taht these too were remakes of the so-called original "Southie" films.
Mahmood modeled his entire career from veteran Tamil comedian Nagesh's, copying almost all of his big hits into Hindi. "Pyar Kiye Jaa" was a frame-by-frame remake of the tamil superhit "Kadhalikka Neram Illai", both versions directed by Tamil director Sridhar, and Nagesh's comedy scenes in the movie are every Tamil film buff's alltime favorite! Ditto for another comedy "Bombay To Goa", which was a frame-by-frame copy of the Tamil hit, "Madras To Pondicherry", starring Nagesh.
Mahmood never acknowledged Nagesh's contribution to his career anywhere. And he had the guts to mock Madrasis and Hyderabadis in almost all of his movies.
A friend, We lost Mr mehmood. A great commedian, god will give peace to his soul, He left behind lot of memories good moovies, in which he gave messege, how to laugh and how make people laugh.
It is a great loss to Indian cinema.I guess the void created by sad demise of comedian maestro can never be filled up.i share my grief with the family of the departed soul.
