bollywoods problems..........
by vasanth kumar k on Apr 03, 2003 09:36 PM

bolly wood lack good technical crew and support actors..

you can hit big hits only with superstar heros and heroines....

incontrast.. south movies has good technical crew and
support actors...

so producers find different music directors like MM kream, good cameraman ,stunt, dance and art directors from south...and metured young ,talented director and
more importantly produce LOW budget movies like south..

Has the industry ever tried to think why people would pay exorbitant prices to see lousy movies? I don't understand why I should pay 100 rupees for a ticket for a lousy movies when for 60-70 rupees I can buy the VCD and watch it with my family and friends. Even school/college kids who used to go out for movies once in a while for timepass would shy away if they have to shell out a large part of their pocket money on sôme lousy movies.

I think there should be some thought put on reasonable ticket pricing, school and student discounts. Theaters should also come up with offers, e.g. watch 10 movies, pay for 9 and so on. For this the entire industry has to work out a viable rate and pricing policy to get back the viewers to the theatre - the front benchers, the family, the teenageers - otherwise none of the movies will be a hit.

Piracy Is Killing Film Industry
by Ramesh D on Apr 01, 2003 05:30 PM

I stay in Dubai where new movies are mostly released on Wednesday before they are released in India.

Last movie I say in cinema here was over 1 year back
Cinema ticket here is Dh20 about Rs.250 -

But stll I watch all the movies. Thanks to Piracy

By Sunday market is flooded with Dh5.00 VCD of
new movie ( copies made from original that comes
from Pakistan)

Same think is happening in India , unless authorities
dont put end to this Piracy , movies will keep
flopping
Its not that people have stopped watching films , they watch but through cable or Pirated VCD

Ramesh

Agree with Deepa gehalot's article.

Mera ek suggestion hai. The Industry come together for tax issues. The Industry comes together for piracy issues, underworld issues, fund raising etc etc.
It comes together to talk about overseas marketing, technology and has conferences like FRAMES.
Then why on earth, does not the industry come together, have a seminar/open house, to discuss the biggest problem the industry is facing :SCRPITS.
This seminar needs to be discussing only one issue and that is S C R I P T S.
Distributors, financers, exhibitors, producers, directors, stars-actors, writers, journalists, film historians, indisutry 'watchers', technicians like camera persons-special effects people, music directors....each one of these memebers of the film faternity need to address the issue of scripts from their point of view.
These speakers should be from the all the strains of film making in the industry. The old guard, the young turks and the wannabes. Representatives from A-B-C grade mainstream films, 'crossever'Hinglish films, small and big 'art house' cinema, and what have you. Also it would be interesting to have speakers from representative groups of audiences too.
The entire focus of this seminar /conference could be to get different definations of good scripts and different ideas on how and from whom and from where to accquire these good scripts.

this effort , I am sure will be a worthwile investment for the industry.

A great idea! Agreed 100%..
Some brainstorming sessions needs to be conducted, and it should also have representatives from the audiences.

I would very much agree with the comments of Charudutt. In the past one year or so, Bollywood had really a troublesome time. There was nothing wrong with the direction, performances, star appeal, cinematography of Karz, Aap Mujhe Ache Lagney Lagay, Shakti etc but what happened was that they were lacking the good scripts. Charudutt also pointed one important point of arranging workshops. I think to the some extent that is true but you see do the directors like Subhash Ghai who have 100 % success rate deserve to attend workshops of such kind, rather they are trend setters and star makers.
I would really like to appreciate the efforts by the people like Shayam Benegal who despite any kind of support, are arranging filmi get togethers like MAMI, yet get unnoticed and from the hoarde of indian cinema few performers like Aamir Khan show up in such functions.
Why 'hinglish' movies or say small budget films are getting popular. Let's Talk, Stumble, Leela, Mr & Mrs Iyer, Zubeida just talk about the reality and dealing with camera and audience in a form acceptable to masses as well the class.
Like my other friend's view, I am also looking forward to the films like Sudhir Mishra's Calcutta Mail, Honey's Arman, Rohan's Kuch Na Kaho.
