Why is a film that presents a passionate pro-military theme, so replusive to the people who make their living exploiting the freedoms which such a military provides them? Maybe they can ask the boat people that set out to sea in anything that will float(Cambodia, Vietnam,Cuba, Haiti, ..must I go on). Quit being the cry-baby sissy that you are and just go kiss the bottom of the boot of the next Marine that you can find.
I'm gonna agree with the Critic on this one. This movie was grotequesly dull. And it's ironic how Black Hawk Down is mentioned. I told my friend, who was watching it with me, at the end of the movie, "we should've paid the same price to see 'Black Hawk Down' again."
"Tears of The Sun" isn't a horrible movie. It depicts the war crimes often committed and the corruption instilled on African soil. While I was moved by the atrociousness of the crimes, I felt heart broken to see the SEALS die off. I'm a military oriented fellow (in the process of being in The Corps). Yet, it settled my dispute with my friend on how if all of them lived, it would be another team-run-and-gun movie. Fuqua didn't do a horrible job in production. The storyline just lacked any points of interest.
Another thing, developing a para-love affair between A. K. Waters and the lady Doctor kind of cheapened the film even more.
I am tired of our country being held to a double standard. Because there is torturing and civil war in developing countries, does that mean we have to step in a stop it? And when there are other conflicts and we DO get involved, we are critisized for being the "global policemen". "Tears of the Sun" is entertainment designed to get people buying tickets, sit for two hours watching an overly simplistic drama about American heroism.
The movie was excellent. Bruce Willis played one of his better roles in this movie. Contrary to your article; there was sentiment felt and it should be a 4 star movie. The lines for this movie were very, very long. People obviously came out to see a good movie. I think whoever wrote this article needs to revamp their way of thinking.
When you see it on international woman's day it really really really disapoints. Afghan women are still told to stay home and the charia is still in effect in many parts of Afghanistan.
America just thinks Bruce Willis can come and save the day almost alone against millions. What arrogance on our part and what ignorance. Now we go and do the same in Iraq. We're just going in to save that place from horrible things and if it doesn't work out the way we want we'll just close our eyes like we do today in Afghanistan.
