One moment in Bhoot leaves one emotionally shaken and for that Urmila deserves all the credit. I for one will remember this scene for years to come. When Tanuja as the mother of the dead Manjit comes and touches Urmila's forehead, the emotions expressed are gut wrenching and one nearly cries silently for the tortured herione. That Urmila gave such an emotional scene in a film that may not have required such hard work is a tribute to her hard work.
Indeed Urmila was good in the movie. But not good enough to teach acting (as she does towards the end of the interview). Varma as 'extracted' performances out of duds like Fardeen, Chakravarthy etc, atleast urmila is more 'talented' that Fardeen. As far as "there were no reference points to prepare for this role" goes....I hope one fine day (20 years later) she would admit that she saw The Devil's Advocate to prepare for the 'slow nervous breakdown' she potrayed(quite well) in this movie. And I hope Varma and his team would also confess this! And as for the person who wrote the article, she wasn't "daringly different" in Pyar Tune Kya Kiya....that role has been played by SRK, Sharad Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Raj Babbar and Kajol. And Varma pushed the envelope with Raat (a horror movie which scares without spending a penny on ghost salaries!!)...he brought the envelope a bit back with Bhoot by going for the cliched storyline. This was, by far, the worst story taken up by Ram Gopal Varma.
The film did manage to scare effectively at places. For a film of such small duration, and taut direction, that's more than enough.Though it "could" scare more....it is definitely not a miss.Urmila ur superb.
Bhoot's success is attributed to it's world class treatment of a hackneyed story, coupled with fabulous performances. For the protagonists and the director,it is a landmark film.
The film Bhoot is a new experience and in my opinion deserves all the adulation it is getting now.The same holds true for Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgan for their great work.Ramgopal Verma has another hit in his hands.
Ram gopal Varma deserves his rightfully earned credit for the success of " bhoot",especially that he could extract such performance from Urmila... he dared to go where no one has even attempted before..with films like Satya,Kaun,Company etc.moreover "bhoot" has no songs !!...he will inspire many newcomers to break the mold of regular bollywood fare.
Urmila was just Fabulous in Bhoot..She's undoubtedly one of the best actresses we have today. She should certainly get an award for her performance in Bhoot.
