The reference to the Gerald Ford joke is wrongly stated by rediff. The joke punchline was actually making a reference to the fact that Ford as the then new US president, had pardoned Nixon after Nixon resigned over the Watergate scandal.
dear editor pls check on mr. parasrams references !! Bob hopes joke on gerald ford ("pardon me") has got nothing to do with ford's football career. Ford had become infamous for Pardoning NIXON who was facing impeachment and criminal investigation for the watergate scandal. Ford never recovered from this Pardon and could not seek a second term as us president. regards petleo
"I bumped into Gerald Ford the other day. I said, 'Pardon me.' He said, 'I don't do that anymore.'" (That was a reference to the fact that Ford, with a football injury when he was a star player, would sometimes fall).
That joke had nothing to do with Ford's ability to trip & fall...it references his ability as President to issue pardons. Get the joke right!
The joke Bob Hope made about Gerald Ford where he bumps into Ford and says "Pardon Me" and Ford responds, "I don't do that anymore" -- that joke is not a reference to Ford's prolific falls (which were made fun of quite well by Chevy Chase on Saturday Night Live). The "Pardon Me" joke refers to the presidential pardon that Ford gave to Nixon after Nixon resigned the presidency.
sad to learn about the passing away of the legendry bob hope. he gave us mirthful moments aplenty. surprisingly in ur obituary you havnt named a single film of bob hope. please correct that.
