Bhishim Sawhney
by mraina on Jul 13, 2003 05:42 AM

I never thought highly of Tamas for I know there are better novels on partition. But what struck me most about Bhishim Sawhney was his deep humility about his work.He listened to my not-so-flattering comments on Tams at a Shimla seminar and evn agreed with me on some points of craftsmanship. He amazed me by his extensive knowledge of the best European writers, particularly of the great Russians. He also had a wide grasp of the English literary tradition which he turnewd to good account in his own writing.
One moment struck me the most. I once conveyed to him my appreciation of his daughter Kalpana Sawhney's critique of Bulgakov. He was excited about this and told me that he would convey my thoughts to his daughter.Nobody else had spoken to him about Bulgakov
In his death we have lost a respectable writer and a great humanist and lover of good writing. writing.

Tributes On Bhisham Sahni
by Satya on Jul 12, 2003 06:43 PM

Though I was a 60s product Tamas was one serial I watched when it was aired without fail. And I had tears in my eyes, anger even goose pimples.
Though coming from South India, Tamas made me feel guilty, and somehow inexplicably I identifies with the angst of the traumatic period of partition. I could relate better whenever my neighbours or friends recounted the partition stories told by their older relatives.
That's a tribute to the man and his sensitivity and sensitivity.
By the way, while in such a sublime moment please do not insert New: Salman...
Also:Should porn videoes be banned...
etc.
You could design the page in such a way as to keep those kickers at the bottom.
While paying tributes, its an insult to have such nonsense creep into it.
Thanks

Good Work
by Vijayakumar on Jul 12, 2003 04:05 PM

I never read any book of Bhishma Sahni, but I saw Thamas and consider as one of the great work.It is great only because of the theme it deals with. We young genaration doesn't understand the value of freedom. This is the basic cause of communal riots.
I am paying my tributes to this Great writer let his work give him the fame that never dies.
Thanks
Vijay

Tribute

It is with great sorrow that I note that we have lost an important secular voice from our country at a time when India is tarnished everyday with religious fundamentalism. It will not be possible to replace Bhisham Sahni's sensitive work ever. I guess the young generation of today will always remain ignorant about people like him and his literary abilities.
