ZEE Film Awards 2003
by Raja on Jan 19, 2003 10:03 AM

With a great enthusiasm sitting abroad we watch the awards given by zee film awards but it took me by surprise i thought i was watching OSCAR it is not definately a compliment as we had the whole of the awards for hindi movie ad not a actor know how to speak in hindi. It is funny how our bollywood stars always want to become HOLLYWOOD but on movie same DESI as their they want to be saleable and popular among indian crowd. Bollywood has lost its very existence we have movies which are not indegenous going for best film. These are the people who represent our movie industry.

I completely agree with your article..But it definately isn't fair to blame the entire thing on the directors only. After all its the orthdox censor board which prevents the directors from making movies related to the teens in real life too...
Secondly i believe that sex itself is still a taboo in our society and unless that changes the movie scence is still gonna be the same !!

I guess only good teen movie made in Hindi is JJWS. The movie dealt with real teen not like DCH where they are almost grown up. Also, this the only movie that really talks about sports (though there were few earlier bad attemps in late '70s/early '80s) which is very important. The movie also shows the extreme differences in our society. Not mentining about the film shows that the writer didn't do nay homework and to me the whole article is a trash.

regards,

Ketan Mehta's Holi captured the essence of Indian college life very well in the eighties.

i think indian movie makers who want to ape hollywood and create teen movies are stuck in the middle. they want to tackle the 's' thing and bring it out of the closet and at the same time play safe and stick to indian hypocrasy on the subject. the result is a mess and no justice done to the subject and the audience.

i absolutely agree wih ur coments, but u must remember the economic side of bollywood beacause at the end of the day, it's a business and a teen flick wouldnt approve to the masses. its better to be safe with amitabh bachchan, shahrukh or aamr than a bunch of newcomers !!!!!

I'd like to point out two movies that. i felt, did depict quite honestly the feelings of the naive youth which one feels while growing up. One was Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander...a true classic about the teenage inter school rivalry, first love and all those things you experience in 11th class. The second in Rockford, a good story about a kid in his pre-teens told wonderfully. Both these films deserve full accolades.

teen movie

Well, first off I dont agree that Dil Chahta Hai was a teen movie. All the characters in the movie were grownups, although they exhibited behavior (once in a while) that befitted a teenager. Furthermore, I dont agree that it "exists out of an unidentifiable social milieu..". Indian society is not like the American or many Western societies: Indian soceity is hardly homogeneous - it is extremely complex. In India, you can find teens who drive BMWs and go to proms and date and in the same India you can find teens who don't even have a motorbike to ride, whose only objective in life is to do well academically and get a decent job. Of course it's true that the movie was intelligible mostly to urban audiences.

Making a teen movie in Bollywood that reflects the life of a typical Indian teenager is difficult - the reason being the same - there's too much diversity in the lifestyles that Indian teenagers lead.

hey i agree...
it would be deifficult to pin down a stereotypical indian teen, there's so much more than meets the eye. American teenagers, i think, are far more sterotypical, it's easy to identify the jocks from the goths from the geeks... style was a completely derogatory movie as far as the female gender went. I think Bollywood needs to not try 2 copy Hollywood teen movies but try to capture the Indian colleeg scene as bet possible in an innovative and refreshing way.
