this is an OK movie. the topic is not a bad 1, but the execution is, @ times, pitiful. the songs, especially "pyaar bhara geet" (or something like that) r unnecessary and detract from the overall experience of viewing the film. it seems that dutta has managed overkill by giving just about every soldier a wife (films r allowed 2 take certain liberties when portraying real events/people) and that each and every wife seems 2 echo the other. the side-stories r basically all 1 and the same, thus leading 2 a factor of boredom in the movie. this picture should have spent a few more hours in the editing room, and a few less hours focusing on every single soldier. not 2 b all negative the technical aspects of the film r commendable, and the movie's not exactly unwatchable. sadly, it just could have been SO much better.

why we can never forget kargil

I have seen the movie only yesterday. It was not capturing.

The thought that 'hundreds of young and trained were killed and many more were injured' is enough to make our blood boil. But producer's effort should not go waste. Definitely compilation of many parts of the film and few additions for it can be made and can be shown to the younger generations (to that matter all citizens). We people should do something for the producer as he suffered a lost lot of money.

I thank sincerely to the director producer for his efforts. JP Duttaji don't lose heart. You are special for Bharat mata.

LOC is great
by Gargi on Jan 27, 2004 05:10 AM

This is a great movie. The actors are great, and I like the fact that the movie is not really "filmi", it is totally based on realism. This movie gave me more information between the India and Pakistan conflict.

LOC - a movie not in control
by Jimmy on Jan 25, 2004 08:11 PM

One of the worst war movies seen in recent times. Agreed that the director went to great extent to make it authentic, but surely there is more to soldiers and national heroes than firing at your enemeny and then discussing your girlfriends and then go back to firing once again.
The entire movie is an exercise in futility. The number of heroes is so mind-boggling that most of them are no more than extras. There has been little or no characterization of most of the stars, the heroines are stuffed in just cause they agreed to do a 'patriotic' movie for free or at heavily discounted rates.
If the movie is to be believed, our foot soldiers are no better than the average foulmouthed guy on the street mouthing anti-pak dialogues and choicest of abuses, run in front of enemy fire when your buddy gets hit as if you are the main cast of a hindi masala movie and then drop dead.
War strategy consists of skirmishes and shoot anything that moves, for both the country's soldiers.
And most of the movie critics dont give an honest opinion for fear of being considered 'un-patriotic'. Get a life guys and do your jobs properly!

could have been better

a great attempt i would rather say... but being in defence the flaws i can point are many..
except for anuj's scene , in no other battle could the viewer appreciate the actual tactical position of our men vis a vis the enemy... u see a paki firing and an indian firing and both dying... those who have seen saving private ryan and the thin red line will get my point..
tiger hill was such a great victory .am sure no one could make head or tail of the incident in the movie..
the josh talks by the commanding officers lacked the fervour...
pakis in many scenes are shown as mere dummies waiting to die...
more stress seem to be given on casuality evacuation than fighting while facing the enemy...
the main reason that we suffered so many casualties was that the enemy was at the top..and our men had to reach the top while taking the shots like a person on top of a 3 story bldg hurling stones at bypassers...
good to see tinges of reality in the movie but i feel the director should have taken someone from the defence along to help him visualize the actual scenario... locales are real and one can see the effort behind it but so much more could be done..

Movies such as this...
by Farrah on Jan 16, 2004 04:26 AM

Movies such as this one are the reason why Pakistan and India are still fighting... Why does the public need a constant reminder to disrespect their fellow man through entertainment and film? Directors should take a break from making war films for a while until things settle down around pakistan and india... it just creates more anger in the public... there are other ways of showing patriotism.
