Tushar
One of the best movie on Underworld
by Tushar on Aug 08, 2004 08:22 AM

'Parinda' is truly one of the better films made in India. It is Vidhu Vinod Chopra's best till date. Why has he stopped making films like Parinda and Khamosh?

Parinda was stylish and had powerful content. In fact the caption of the movie read 'The most powerful film ever made'. It was technically brilliant and is amongst the few Indian films which are on par with Hollywood in terms of technique.

The story, screenplay and dialogues were superb. It was grim and dark film, but then a film which dealt with the underworld has to be like that. The only thing missing are the light moments or comedy. However, the story unfolds in such a way that there is no place for light moments. The intense and subdued romance between Anil and Madhuri is well captured along with the mood of the film.

The performances by all the actors was also superb. Be it Jackie Shroff as Kishen, who is concerned about his brother, or Anil Kapoor as Karan who wants to avenge his friend's death and at the same time wants his brother to leave this profession. Madhuri, without any make-up looks simple and performs quite well in this film dominated by male characters. Nana Patekar as Anna is memorable.

I remember the elctrifying chemistry between one of the most endearing screen pairs of all time- AK-MD. The love-maling scene at the end was done with so much dignity and class!!

Parinda a Masterpiece

I truly agree to all your comments about Parinda. One thing I would add about the music, everyone forgets the unforgettable song Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari. It is such a simple song but still the voices of Suresh Wadkar, Shailendra and the kids, makes it really out of the world. Overall the movie has very little flaws, maybe it does not have comedy otherwise it could have matched Sholay in competing for being the most complete Indian film.
I am saddedned though by Vinod Chopra's further attempts, though Mission Kashmir was passable. Parinda's biggest assest was that most people can relate to it, unlike the candy floss nonsense which Bollywood keeps imposing on us. The frustrations of Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff make one feel suffocated as well as involved, something which is not possible with KKKGam. One can really emphatize with all characters and Nana Patekar was evil personified. Sincere work altogether.
And of course I would not want him to repeat Kareeb kind of movies, it was romance at its worst. Would like him to try a sincere hand in comedy, but hopefully away from the lewd, loud and cheap stuff which bollywood dishes out every once in a while. BOL Vidhu

I remembered watching On The Waterfront (marllon brando)a couple of years ago and have seen movies from Deewar to Ghatak ,Ghayal to Ghulam and of course Shiva to Company.

I am sure readers will find all kind of similarities including UnderworldDrama and/or 2 brothers in central characters and each movie stands tall in one way and other,Parinda has all the best ingredients and perhaps wins the race.

Every chemistry (AK-Jackie,AK-Madhuri, Nana-Jackie) worked exceptionally well.

Chopra's Best Movie by far(the closest great being khamosh) and again perhaps the one of the all time greats in hindi cinema.
