I agree that Lagaan is a real good movie and was wonderfully made but I simplay dont understand where the question of patriotism arises??A village tries to free itself from the shackles of British Taxes and the game is used as a tool.Had it been the local Zamindar then maybe some other game would have been used instead of cricket!!!!

Man, I think u eat, sleep, & think cricket all the time. It's ridiculous to give 9.5 out of 10.
I agree with u regarding direction & etc. Its good in this aspect but one main thing pulls which pulls back me is I cant see much pain in the movie.
I dont mean that I'm pyshce to love to see the hate things in a movie, but it fails to bring out real struggle what we had to face during the patriotic uprising.
One way it falls in the category softer side of patriotic movie group, no doubt it's enjoyable, but once in a time.

we as indians first, & particularly Bollywood fans, should understand that our indian cinema is so vast that nothing in particular can be termed as best.there are a list of best movies which are really good in their own respect.talking of lagaan ,it was certainly good because it was very well scripted & had a perfect combination of the two madness of our country, cricket & pre independence patriotism.but we cannot term it as best,& thereby minimise the credits of other movies which in their own term were good & even better than lagaan.one that immediately comes to mind is V.Shantaram's Do Aankhen Baraah Haath, Govind Nihalani's Tamas,J.P.Dutta's Border, & the list goes on ....,which were certainly best in their own regards.Patriotism doesn't only mean about our pre-independence days or even India-Pakistan relations for that matter,Patriotism is a culture, its about trying to know & solve problems, that exists in india. Its also, about bettering the internal relationships amongst us indians in India, which has given shelter to all the communities of the world.
hence i believe that no film in particular can be termed "best". As for lagaan ,it is a good film on the subject i.e.Cricket.
