well Mr. Jha, what u say is correct, i thnk producers and actors need to get thier act together atleast now, after seeing crores of money just going down the drain,,Its Content at the end of the day, which is what we lack, the only two movies my group of friends are looking forward to are Ishq Vishq and Supari, thy look very intresting...hope for a better 2nd half of 2003!
Taking stock of the films released until now, it should be noted that only 2 films have been hits. The rest flopped resulting in huge losses for Bollywood. Over the years the audience has been fed with the following myths:
Love stories, a fresh star pair and a multi star cast work wonders at the box-office. Stars are solely responsible for making the film a hit. Music can make or break a film. Video, cable TV, Satellite channels and media have destroyed Bollywood. The middle class audience has stopped coming to the theatres.
Bollywood wallahs often believe in these myths and keep churning out substandard products. But the reality is that:
The audience wants good, clean and different films. The treatment of the film matters most of all. A good musical score enhances a films appeal but on its own cannot make for a hit. Films are a directors medium. The audience is ready to go to the theatres and pay any amount to see a good film.
well as usual jha came up with an exciting piece but here is an piece of advise(forgive me for being an smart ass...) lets stop relying on the next big release in case the previous one flopped its really embarassing to see producers directors actors distributors all and sundry latching on to the next one to dish out the industry from this testing times. Just imagine one single movie big or small saving the living daylights of the industry...impossible, a'int gonna make any difference. BTY Jha forgot to mention 'Jism' in the thin hit line.
One of the critics on this very site shred EAEG to pieces calling it a big FLOP. Why, even if u now visit the box office segment of this website, they have ranked EAEG on the fourth or fifth position and given a box office verdict as "FLOP".
It is not such a bad idea to wait with patience before u pass a judgenment on performance. I sincerely hope that either
a) they change the person writing the reviews and giving box office verdicts
or
b) wait untill the trade magazines come out with a clearcut picture of the situation and untill such time change thier field name from "BOX OFFICE VERDICT" to "BOX OFFICE PREDICTION"
Apart from various factors discussed in the article, I would say most of the people are disgusted with unindian dress, unindian tunes and everything unindian in Bolliwood cinema. India is a country with a distinct culture of its own and any assault on that culture in the form of cinema is bound to attract resentment of its people. There is no doubt in the mind of the people that certain acters are being imposed on them and they have no other way to express their resentment than stop going to theatres. However in the coming days people hope to see reflection of indian culture in the indian films.
For the last 10 years I have been hearing the same thing, i.e. the year is going to be bad for Bollywood. But the film makers continue to dish out the usual fare. God knows where they get the money to invest from. But at least the journalists are happy, they can recycle the same articles every year. Ha Ha Ha
