Please do not comapre Lagaan with Gadar. Lagaan is best movie I have ever seen. As you have already mentioned that the box office success of the movie does not decide how good the movie is. Lagaan is a classic and you cannot say the same for Gadar.
RE:No comparison between lagaan and gadar

Well about comparison between Gadar and Lagaan, yes the movies are totally different in their aspects from each other. Both films were very well directed. However, it is unfortunate if someone devalues Gadar against Lagaan.
Lagaan and Gadar were both commercial movies. Gadar was a smash hit and was way ahead of Lagaan at box office. The film was based on real-life story and showed true passion of that time.
Lagaan was a fictional cricket drama film. Both films tried to influence the Indian audience emotions, one targeted cricket and the other infamous Indo-Pak partition.
As every body knows Gadar exploited it better and thats why it was mass popular.
It's all fine that Anil Sharma talking about The Hero being the costliest production in Bollywood history.Going through the article one does feel that what is left unsaid that it is an out and out remake or 'inspired' by the Hollywood film 'The Saint'.Seeing Sunny Deol in so many disguises one need not be a film critic to know about ideas being borrowed.
Hi, Anil Sharma is surely making tall claims that it will be 100% film, it will be sensitive, it is not copy of James Bond, it is not like Aankhen (original Hindi espionage movie that was really good one) He is also claiming that it is a family "Clean" movie without sex and violence! Isn't this all too much? Or is it that our definitions and Anil's definitions aren't same! I am sure it will have heroines wearing ultra short clothes and lots of gyrations (zatkas and matkas!)plus a lot of Dishum Dishum (now a days that might not classify as violence or what! May be we are desensitised due to direct war viewing on TV!) I think Anil is making a relative statement. The film will not have sex and violence to the extent when one compares with any Hollywood movie. I am likely to see this movie (what can a movie addict do!) but I feel all it will have is this.... A hero, a heroine, lot of songs (ofcourse on foreign landscapes!)which may not really be remembered after you come out of theatres, not much of a story with some good action scenes thrown in (to justify taking Sunny Deol in this film!) I hope at least to see some good action from Sunny and I'll see this movie only for that. I know rest of it might be really typical Hindi movie with all cliches and everything...
