After independence when the Princely State's Banks were nationalized / merged with State Bank of India the Government retained their status by making them for example State Bank of Patalia, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur etc. They lost their name and became mediocre sarkari State Banks step sons. But Princely State's Bank like Bank of Baroda was allowed to retain its name even after nationalisation because Bank of Baroda already had an International name and presence before independence during British times. Even today Bank of Baroda has more than 100 Branches in Foreign Countries in most English speaking cities of the world. Now merging or amalgamating 2 weak bank into a strong International Government Bank and changing the name from Bank of Baroda to some other unknown entity will play a havoc in the business done by Bank of Baroda India's International Bank. Hope the present authorities are as wisely advised as in the past to retain the International name of Bank of Baroda.
