SKILLS OF YOUTHS
by Gladyschellam on Jun 19, 2018 09:57 AM

Low skilled youngsters: on completion of education students used to skilled ONLY in learning and some works hard to get good marks to get appointment. On getting appointment whichever the sector be, the skill used to be poor as they used to be zero in that field and it is only a transition period - skills could be improved only by requisite training of basic needs (initially before joining)of that sector and require some practical training immediately after and it could be acquired depends of place of posting and under whom he is posted. But within two/three years the youngster ought to have acquired more knowledge/experience in the respective sector where he is employed and it is purely in the hands of the youth's self learning thru his superiors and colleagues. If there is no self learning, interest in learning with initiative or stopped learning further etc., the youth can never flourish. Learning is a continuous process and if it is stopped due to lack of interest or for any other reasons he will be static and will become unfit to the job. The employee must love his job first. Now a days the youths prefer to switch over after getting some exposure that means his intention is different

Education as a Business

Of course, honourable gentleman like Mohandas Pai and his venerable family had nothing to do with the crass commercialisation of higher education in India. They wrote the templates for crooks to follow all over India. Can he deny that?

We lack things in everything that matters
by R ponnabalam on Jun 18, 2018 08:35 PM

India has perhaps now only a limited window of a decade to get into the developed country tag, or stay perpetually in emerging group of economies." That said we should be blunt enough to admit that our Economy and Developments requirements have been compromised because of 1)militant Trade Unionism in in 1960-80s and 2)privatization , get % commission - culture in contracts and in every deal we make after 1980s.We have seen countries around us develop fast-Japan,S.Korea,China .We are smug talking GDP, then telling GDP growth needs investing and no investing is taking place. Then one fine morning somebody would say 74% of nation's wealth is with 10% of people and 1.4% with 30 % of lower income groups.Who would invest and what GDP growth we would get? .Why the 74% wealth owners should invest without enjoying life?A recent report in QUORA said that Sri lanka's per capita income is double that of India. We started designing Fighter-planes in 1970 or so.We have not made much headway yet.We do not invest in state of the art machinery. All Other countries do invest so!What has HMT grown into? We wasted skills to the appetite of Trade Unionism.Quality is not free;Quality has a premium. premium of investment ,of skill,of knowledge acquisition and of sincere endeavour. We lack in all fronts .A multi pronged concerted effort is needed.IT IS NOT AT ALL THERE.LOUD MOUTHING NEED NOT GET PROUD MOMENTS IN LIFE.R.PONNAMBALAM

Develop language skills in Mother Tongue and English firs
by R ponnabalam on Jun 18, 2018 08:10 PM  | Hide replies

Whether we like to admit or not, we stress upon cramming skills rather than thinking skills. If you tell students to note points of importance and write answers in sentences of their own even in their mother Tongue, it takes some times to develop those skills. If at all we start it ,that is very late. I had this start in Class eleven, that too after two terms were over .Then coming to English! We may have good books. Do the students have the mastery of structure of sentences to read and understand them .As a student who started learning English from class six I couldn’t understand much, when I read Wren&Martin Grammar book for the first time.True, I had no teaching help from parents. So my case can be typical. That is the reason ,I write all these .A vast majority in our fall in this category. There is an urgent need to improve standard of teaching of English. That can make understanding of their subjects of study easy .Our Govts. have the habit of wasting time with three language four language formula and all those rubbish.Restrict language learning to Mother Tongue and English , develop these language skills to understand the subjects of study.R.Ponnambalam

What Mr.Pai said may be correct. But he has not given any suggestion. To my mind two suggestions may be considered by authorities. Firstly syllabus committees of technical universities should make members from industries and take their suggestions seriously. Secondly Industries should make consortium and start training so called qualified students as per needs of particular industries. Like IT &ITES industries can have their own institute likewise manufacturing industries. For example TATAs can have one :Infosys or TCS can have one. Their is no use blaming any body.
