by Bimal Ckakrabarty on Jan 20, 2018 03:34 PM

Presently till tendering is done IRCTC may provide some particular dish in Lunch which may be a Gujrati, Bengali, Maharastrian, Rajastan etc special dish( thali)at affordable price atleast once in a day say Lunch in long distance train based on the order of the passenger. while booking the ticket the option of selection of such thali may be provided. Pasenger will will be happy to know the food of a pticular state , taste it even without travelling to that state. Help for national integration.

Org like ISKCONs Annamrita ...

Org like ISKCONs Annamrita and Akshay Patra should be roped in to deliver foods. They have proved their worth by making delicious food for the mid day meal project.
Outsourcing to them would mean some income to them for their mid day meal projects where to struggle as govt hardly pays them in time. Here to unfortunately govt is involved but hope it does not effect them so much. And more so clean hygienically cooked veg foods for passengers at low price can be great blessings

It should not be compulsory, only to those who opt for it. Look in any train, wastage of food by passengers due to taste.
Save country from national wastage.

by Shyam Sunder on Jan 10, 2018 09:04 PM

How come DRDO is in catering business? Are they researching the consumers defence to the food supplied by them? Better they concentrate on their core activity which is of national importance.

How Railways plan to serve healthy food to passengers
by VENKATESHPRASAD IYER on Jan 10, 2018 06:51 PM

The Railways should also take the help of self help groups run by local NGOs for upliftment of women. Take Kutumb Sakhee outlets run in Mumbaii who serve tasty food at their various outlets. Run by women, the food is wholesome and sells like hotcakes. The local administration like gram panchayats can and should be allowed to bid for such contracts whereby the local cuisine can be the flavour of the season and attain celebrity status for eg. zunka bhakar or pitla or kande pohe or thaleepeeth etc. Maharastrian delicacies. Even Lijjat should be allowed to compete so that this endeavour of Railways can uplift the women/tribal women of each of the States and then Railways can cater to the taste buds of the passengers. There is no dearth of talent in our country when it comes to cooking. Local cuisine specific to that area should be encouraged so that the cuisine flourishes. Even the humble puran poli of Maharastra is a hit in Chennai. Just as south indian outlets are setting shop in Mumbaii, can we have the Panshikars and Chitales with a pan India presence? For foodies the prospects are salivating.
