NPA means erosion of capital"So year after year the banks had been quietly allowing it's pet NPA ie erosion of capital to continue expecting it to reach the ultimate ,to zero level .Banks had been allowing erosion of capital by being, can we term it willful defaulter at work? The why do banks want recap ?is it keep continuing with the erosion of this recap capital also.R.Ponnambalam
"recapitalisation alone is not enough for the economic cycle to kick-start".indian Economy never has kicked nor has started. It gets banged at the gates of banks .Compare India with China who started almost at the same time as we did.I remember having read in newspaper one RBI Governor (I don't remember when he said that while being in RBI or after retirement)telling that the banks were the Non Performing assets. Then there was a RK L 's cartoon in Times of India long back where there were people in the seats inside the bank in a particular attire - type and the common man telling some one pointing at the people seated inside the bank "Earlier this type of people were this side of the counter:". If morale was high at that times there is no reason for that to be low now.Repute or otherwise bankers had brought that for themselves.Simple :there is no substitute for earnest hard work ,good work. They speak for the work.Quick bucks always do not make good work.R.Ponnambalam
What is a wilful default? How would the courts view it? Every default of a customer is always a wilful default after he has been served with a notice of default. What is there for the courts to decide? If there is a dispute, the resolution should be on war-footing. Is it too much to expect from the bankers? This is how it treats small defaulters of fraudulent transactions. Why not treat the big defaulters that way by sending recovery agents? You cannot apply double standards.

"All Muzzies are not terrorists, but all terrorists are Muzzies" is an old saying. NEW SAYING "All Modis are not scamsters BUT ALL SCAMSTERS ARE MODIS" :-)
"see fear of accountability in bankers."Banks revel in accounting standards. So no one in Bank should fear accountability.Every man working anywhere is accountable to what he does.In India some are lucky to have got the luxury of having not been held accountable for long to the detriment of Public interest.Count the incoming and outgoing, their timing as well. One of my companies had this board:"PLAN YOUR WORK:WORK YOUR PLAN"Add to it ,"periodically revisit you plan and do changes for betterment with the new arisings.Things done will give accountability to help a man's accountability stand in good steadR.Ponnambalam
