A huge, unpalatable BLUFF !
by daniel thorat on May 16, 2017 04:39 PM

Like all other bluffs, this one has the safe Armour of a time span of 5 years. With new bluffs coming out everyday and new things taking our full attention, who has the time to check on this one? This govt. and its supporters have certainly created an impression as if we, India, have really ALREADY arrived, made progress, become developed, become rich etc. etc. That has not happened and will not happen unless things actually do happen. Why is there a panic in IT jobs, because of so many IT people are losing jobs? N number of other similar questions exist without any answer. Let us not be fooled by these false and baseless promotional articles.

The Gentleman , who wrote this article seems to be infected by Bhakti Virus, 23 yrs of consistent presence in IT, i can strongly condemn the article its away from the factual things,
The Govt has no focus in IT, Govt is looking to Promote ESDM, That is why IT is Going to Loose heavily on Head Counts, 65% of IIT passout are job less. I dont know why rediff promtes these non serious writers who , write beyond facts just to praise modi, an serious idiotic article.

Quite an optimistic take
by Aravind Raman on May 16, 2017 03:43 PM

With due respect, we need to take Manish's perspective in a context and also with a liberal dose of optimism . I do agree that new jobs would be created in digital (IOT), AI, genomics and health care related domains. But will it lead to such a phenomenal number is a moot question. The reasons are not far to seek! The IT industry has more managers than ever before and with billing pressure and if returns are not commensurate with salaries, there is high likelihood of rationalization of jobs even further with lot of mundane tasks being automated. The assumption of more "onsite" work would be off-shored after all could be misplaced as IT cos are rushing to hire in the US currently. I would be rather cautiously optimistic! (;-)

Saying that there is no unrest is a misnomer. The unemployment rates are very high compared to the official 4.5% they mention. The fact is many unemployed youth remain jobless but there is no hunger as their parents are able to feed them.So there is no unrest. Our population is our biggest problem and if nothing is done immediately it is a ticking bomb. I really wonder why our PMO and govt officials do not see this threat.

that's because population increase is almost 50,000 everyday!!! This means unemployment will never end in this country but PMO and govt. officials are helpless on this side.

Still a losing race in long run
by Sandeep Singh on May 16, 2017 10:24 AM  | Hide replies

India's population is increasing by about 15.8 million per annum. In 5 years, it will be 79 million increase!!! How can you compare the figure with 6 million IT jobs? Clearly employment has to be contributed by all possible sectors and not just IT. But policy makers will not dare to touch the problem that they cannot handle.

Population increase is still continuing only in North in states like UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh etc. States in South and West have already curtailed population. Nobody can continue to create jobs if population keeps growing without any control. State governments in North have to ensure they control population growth by all measures otherwise it will be a huge problem.
