I went to Chowpatty ATM of SBI and the Ballard Estate area on the same day at different times and there was no money at the ATM to withdraw. Getting a PIN leaves the customers on pins and needles. Especially if there is a 3 day holiday combined with a 2nd or 4th Saturday then you return empty handed from most ATMs.

My SBI Debit Card [which I had used for almost 4 years] was inexplicably blocked at the height [or depth??] of Notebandi last December….. with the long queues at the ATMs I considered it a blessing in disguise and was able fend with small cash withdrawals at bank’s counter. Thereafter, it is absolutely same story for ‘getting’ a new PIN for activating my ATM Debit card for past 6 months; I have simply given up …. I issue cheques left and right and make payments of electricity / telephone bills through this very ATM card over I’net, as it does NOT require the PIN!
I also met with similar experience for getting pin for replaced debit card.I tried through net banking only. Here also two methods mentioned OTP or profile pw.Almost I had reached at the final stage I got the message to try again. Now Iwill be going to get PIN.
Nicely written. I had an exactly similar experience with SBI. And recently ( read 4 months ago), I had applied for a PAN card. I am still waiting for it as the website says that" You may have been allotted a PAN number but we do not have the details!!" Incredible India.
Sorry, this post is not worth. I have been using ATM since last ??? do not remember. Never faced any such problem. It is easy to laugh on some small issues discouraging our own people. We Indians are superb for this. Rediff generally accepts such articles happily to show Indians look down. Just have no word to criticize rediff.

If you did not face any problem you are lucky !
And who are you to judge that it is a small issue?
But I do not find an iota of fun in this article, because I had gone through this mess. I took an ATM PIN from an SBI branch twice and still nothing happened ! So I have an ATM (All Time Mocking) card of SBI which I never can use for any cash transaction !

You are absolutely right. One who did not face the malady should not comment in such a manner. I had a similar experience with the new card which was issued in lieu of the old card on expiry.

In such a situation (issue of new card on expiry of the old) the best method is to let the old PIN carry over to the new card - the card holder has an option to change the PIN any time. The new card does not work till the old card expires on it's expiry date.
