Poor Budget
by sudhir sharma on Feb 06, 2017 08:17 AM

Govt expenditure on itself is so high. Salaries pensions and administrative expenditure to govern is about two thirds of all that it has. We can safely say that govts own productivity is the lowest in the country. It implies that there are large number of freeloaders. Full time state governors, huge Presidents Estate and staff, huge bungalows for ministers judges and others enjoying Govt patronage. These do not reflect the concern for abject poverty in the country.Students rushing abroad in thousands every year even to countries like Philippines and China to study. Our politicians are mere gas bags and in the hunt for loot for themselves. Little lower are the bureaucrats. They want exclusive privileges in pay posts and are most inefficient. Our bureaucracy has the notoriety of being one of the worst in the world. Yet they enjoy an exalted status. Our PM and FM must show results in mass reduction of 50% for the next three years.

Relief for senior citizens
by GM Asirvatham on Feb 03, 2017 10:37 PM

I used to get around Rs. 18,000/per month from my bank deposit earlier. This has come down to around Rs. 14,900 now. This has happened over the last 6 months to one year period. The medical expenses for my wife and myself have been rocketing up (though the public sector enterprise where I worked reimburses major part of the medical expenses). It is very difficult for people like us to manage the monthly expenses. The senior citizens are already given .5% additional interest in our fixed deposits. The Government need not change the tax slab, but increase the interest rates of FDs. There are millions of senior citizens in the country who have very low savings and hence low monthly earnings and they will be benefitted by this. Also, there are millions of senior citizens who don't have any deposits and also who don't have any medical coverage. If we analyze their living conditions, our hearts will bleed. I am not interested in my personal benefits, but I am writing this to bring it to the notice of as many citizens as possible. If I get some benefit, I may pass on this to the poor children whom I already supporting to the tune of around Rs. 4,000/ per month presently. Thanks.

It is very easy to criticize a budget. But I feel the FM has taken great pains to give a balanced budget. Whoever prepares the Budget there is always room for criticism. Each one has his own viewpoint which may be right. The FM just cannot satisfy everyone. Personally I feel the top bracket of farmers, whose annual earning maybe more than Rs 50 lakh should come under the Tax Bracket. 70% of the population is engaged in farming. Only the remaining 30% are taxed and their taxes are used to improve the working conditions of the 70% who maybe living like kings. This extra tax of the top bracket of farmers could be spent on the development of the marginal farmers. Conditions have changed since Independence. All the Political Parties should agree to this. Because the Ruling Party that takes this decision will stand to lose the 70% vote bank. A Corpus could also be formed from these Taxes to help the Farmer when there is drought. But frankly, it is easy for me to propose all this. It will be very difficult for the Party in power to carry it out, especially in a democratic set up where 70% of the voters come from that bracket. Nobody will be willing to forego what he is getting. Only a Dictatorial regime could carry this out. And then even the farmers themselves will know that there is nothing wrong in taxing them. The whole of India will then develop at a rapid pace.

They have branded tax payers as evasionists, whereas 70% is rural population who does not come in IT bracket, out of 30%, 80% are below poverty line. Rest is tax payers-majority of them pay it, may be few left over, who does not want to come in tax net either initially or in 30% bracket due to nuisance of Income Tax Deptt. With such few, game of Cat and rat is going on, nothing so far is achieved to BJP with this game. Next election will confirm it.

There is no guaranteed return on Tax investments, so everyone is trying to avoid tax payments. At lease, a portion of money should be returned during their old age which will encourage tax payers
