Congrats to scientists and the govt too
by K Kumar on Sep 26, 2016 02:13 AM

After all despite what Shekhar says, fact is, it is this very Central Govt and its Gen Engg Approv Comm - that has approved it. So where is the problem. Go for it. Ignore the noise of the left or the right. NaMo is India First. He does not care for left or right...as long as it is good for the nation. As simple as that.

by Dinesh Kumar Baradwaja on Sep 24, 2016 03:21 PM

The Government will have to take the call now. Not like earlier one where mess on Bt- brinjal is created. Only major reservation of social activist on Bt- Brinjal was on multinational originated product ! But Bangladesh introduced based on Indian laboratory finding on safety.GM- mustard achievement of Indian scientist is purely swadeshi effort. Needs complimented and introduced it earliest.

Other issues with GM
by R Chakravarti on Sep 23, 2016 09:44 AM

The writer mentions patented, proprietary technologies, terminator seeds, etc.. These problems exist and need to be separately addressed. If a farmer's field gets some seeds from a neighbouring field with a patented variety (maybe because of the wind, or birds or animals) the farmer is held responsible; it is considered like theft! And some criticism of GM is banned - someone should fill in the details on this point.

Misleading

After all, mustard is not engineered from Potato. It is modified by inserting three genies to the mustard. Why the author is shy of calling it Genetically modified when he narrates that it is really modified ?
