Re-taking a dead dream
by Anil Goel on Oct 24, 2016 08:00 PM

Previous government showed us certain dreams, and the whole civil aviation sector got killed. The same is being repeated once again. Giving comparison with America is equivalent to trying making a fool of the common man. All the airlines are in losses today, Kingfisher and others are closed, Vayudoot could never become sustainable, we don't have commanders, we don't have air-traffic controllers, how shall this dream be realised? And then, why should a full-fare paying passenger be made to pay for the travel of a passenger travelling on regional routes? It is sheer loot! And then, talking of travelling to cities like Meerut or Agra from Delhi is just an effort to make fool of the people - in today's traffic conditions, it would take more time to travel to Meerut or Agra by air (including check-in time) than to travel by car. With 25% to 30% VAT on fuel, I don't think it shall be viable to run an airline, even with a subsidy. And if you give concessions to regional airports, why not to the big airports? People flying to big cities also are citizens of this countries only...

Why do Indian Airlines need to be subsidies?
by Vaibhav Shete on Oct 22, 2016 09:43 AM

Why do Indian Airlines need Government dole to fund their ventures. Dont they have able administrators to do their own? Why spend Public money on airlines subsidies?

Let them earn their own money!

NONSENSE THINKING
by Varun on Oct 21, 2016 06:45 PM  | Hide replies

A taxi to the air port costs min Rs. 600
A coffee is min Rs. 50
A normal meal is min Rs. 100
A half-liter water bottle is min Rs. 30

Check-in time is one hour before
travel time to the air port

We must leave our house min 4 to 5 hours before the check-in time

No middle-class person will be ready to bear all these things for a mere 2500 rupees ticket

Instead, these people should find a solution for all the above and then keep the min fare

All unwanted schemes for that big-big announcements and posts everywhere

You are talking of metro cities. If you have flown to smaller towns like Raipur, Ranchi, Vijaywada, Coimbatore, etc, the costs are not so high and you can leave 2 hrs before departure. It is not a bad scheme. It will allow smaller towns to also use air travel. Right now, 75% of the traffic is on high density metro routes between Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, etc. The rules are same for everyone so I don't see why Spicejet is crying. The longer term solution is to develop high speed trains like Gatimaan, Shatabdi on existing tracks. This will take another 5-6 years though. In the mean time, this is a good scheme to allow travel to and from smaller towns.

A regular flying person who lives in a metro enjoys all the five star facilities financed by a common man living in small town. If a small part of his contribution is returned why you are so much panicked?
