Rajan may be a capable person But he should have limited his capacapabilities to his work only. He cannot make disparaging remarks about the Govt and certainly should not send sensitive material to his chicago buddies. What right did he have to warn Mrchidambaram about any enquiry and to facilitate it delay response tp Swamy. There were many governors who did excellent job and certainly we can get another one. UPA govt wanted rajan to build up its creditability at a time when it was low in the world. With the present govt such is not the problem Mani

India needs experts with international exposure
by THANGAVELU on May 29, 2016 07:52 AM

We have got home grown experts, but lacks international experience and exposure. In the present economic scenario, even QE in USA and devaluation in china's currency is affecting my small fort folio of shares, MFs and Gold ETFs. It is complex situations and need greater exposure. Even with all these anti risk planning, the results can go wrong. Again our politicians wants to come on the first page of News papers by announcing projects, freebies without sustainable source of funds. They come, spend and go for next elections, to get elected. Poor citizen is loaded with Loan, without his knowledge. We need consistent policy on macro economics and value creation. We can understand Mr Rajan's understanding of real issues of NPA in Banks. All banks are now reporting abnormal losses.... How to arrest share prices of our public sector banks. We need more experts like Rajans....

Why Rajan
by veeraraj urs on May 26, 2016 04:41 PM  | Hide replies

Muralidharan knows his job, as does Rajan. A rare write-up with even rarer honesty, especially from a man said to be a past MD of the BNP Paribas, a pariah entity. Kudos Rajan and Murali equally, here I hand, nay, throw a kick on Subramanian Swamy's backside, even if I like him mostly and possibly as much as Murali does.

I fully agree with comments of Mr. Muralidharan and your comments. Our PM has unduly encouraged the tribe of people like Subramaniam Swamy.

Great Drama by BJP
by Dancarter on May 26, 2016 06:42 AM

Its a drama by BJP to put Rajan under stress and panic. Later on go to renew his term..so that Rajan can think differently to improve the economy. Bet you BJP doesn't have a choice..if they had they should have removed him when they came to power.

Political?
by Kundapur Kumar on May 24, 2016 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

Raguram Rajan's comment on intolerance, his poor control over Banks in related to bad loans etc. arises doubt that everything is not o.K. Any way it must be left with government as govt. is solely responsible. As there is no dearth for intellectual, nonpolitical right candidate in India.

What are you talking Kumar. Bad loans did not arise overnight. It was always there but banks were refusing to recognize those as bank loans by clever accounting manipulation. It is because of Rajan that banks have been forced to recognize the bad assets and make provisions for those. For the first time a majority of companies are selling their assets to repay the bank loans - something that was not happening earlier.

Bad observation Sriram. RBI cannot wash off its hand of the wrong doings of nationalised banks. In last 5-6 years all the nationalised banks have had a bad patch while the private banks have done very well. Even ICICI had revived in this period, but nationalised banks have done very bad. RBI to be blamed for that.

Secondly, under Rajan's nose, banks' NPAs have gone from bad to worst.

Thirdly, Rajan's does not have any retrospective plans for increasing FDI, this is where the liquid funds are shrinking.

Fourthly, Rajan was the economic advisor for Government of India before becoming RBI Governor, but he never uttered a word on the wrong doings of the then government, probably not to displease his political bosses as it might affect his chances of becoming RBI Governor.

Fifthly, Rajan talks like Rahul Gandhi who always used to say government should do this and government should that, when his own government was in power. He always talked like an opposition leader. Similarly Rajan too critisizes the policies of the government, when he is in a position to make the so called policies.

Sixthly, Rajan talks like more a politician than an executive.
