A very absurd idea , that doesnt fit into the modern scheme of things. As the writer said . If the airline is fit to fly in India , then it can be fit to fly anywhere in the world , provided it wants to . Time to junk it
Five years and 20 aircrafts is a good rule and must be continued. Many Indian airlines have operated under this rule, so long. Just because a few of the new airlines are pressurizing the govt to allow them to fly abroad by diluting this rule, is not enough reason to scrap the 5/20 rule. Foreign airlines shd have been told to keep slots for Indian airlines, before they were allowed to fly in India. At least now, an effort may be made.
The rules shd not be changed just because the Cong brought it in as the BJP now, wants to cancel it.
Otherwise, the newer airlines shd be made to pay a compensation to the airlines stuck because of the policy.
The rule which gave foreign airlines more leverage than the domestic ones was surely self destructing one, nowhere in the world domestic airliners are treated as badly as in India. The UPA govt worked totally against the domestic airliners while giving preference to the foreign ones.
