There is nothing new in this. These seem same old rules - which are anyway collected when the claims are submitted unless there is something that govt is hiding/written in fine print - which is not published here.
Out of 125 crores people only 3 crores file IT returns honestly. Even if there is they try to hide something, govt loses may be in thousands or worst case in lakhs.
However Govt is not doing anything for the defaulters who need to pay nearly 550,000 crores. For the sake of showing some thing Govt caught a "small fish" called Mallaya who needs to pay 9000 crores. What is the govt doing for the public sector companies which have defaulted? Are the babus made responsible?

What is petty matter here ?

Avoiding tax is a criminal offence.
If you were in the US Or Canada you would not ever dare think of doing it.

Sridhar-you are right, but make laws practical, is it fare to deduct tax on merely Rs.900 p.m. interest payment from a bank, similarly to deduct or account for rental income of around Rs.8500 p.m.
Govt. is teaching us all mal practices or giving hands to Babus to seek bribe. Small small issues are reason for bribe at grass root level.
Criminal/corruption starts from one sided laws.

We are already doing this but getting PAN and receipt from house owner is one in million.
Govt first make law for them so that when renting out they should hand over these documents in advance with agreement.

First of all this is a old news as far as HRA is concerned
For LTA your article does not specify anything but only HRA, then why you use LTA along with HRA?

This Government is very tough for middle class specifically for salaried class. No relaxation in tax slabs and increasing toughness day by day.

It is sheer waste of time and public money over nothing. How much can a salaried individual gain by these things compared to Vijay Mallyas and Augusta deals? Try to catch bigger whales free in the country instead of squeezing out small prawns. Most likely the IRS guys in the department are well taken care of by big people.
