The Indian Government first throw Mansanto out of India, which is spoiling Indian soil.It is the culprit who is responsible for waning of native seeds of plants. We are very much grateful to Mansanto if it will close business in India.

Irrespective of the political game going behind the screen, but if they pullout from Indian system, its going to be pathetic. As Bt cotton seeds have occupied almost 95% of the Indian cotton cultivation and its just the monopoly of the Monsanto, who has this elite technology. This tremendous technology has been demonstrated worldwide, and in particular, India has seen much reduction in the pesticide usage and significant yield increase (2nd inthe world). On the contrary, there is no goverment institutes have comeup with equivalent version of bt cotton, in order to supplement farmers with this technology. Its been from 2002 till now, none of the Indian scientific labs with crores of rupees of research budget with ICAR, has any such miracle technology. Ultimately farmers has to suffer, adding much to the already prevailing drought and unseasonal rains. Govt. should take long term steps to look into this matter and solve it amicably.

Well Said. Crores of money is alloted to Indian Council of Agrl Research (ICAR) but to NO use. Entire money is useless. When Monsanto brings in well research technology, definitely they charge a premium. Its Govt duty to balance between technology provider, Farmers and Seed Companies to ensure Win - Win situation for all.

Congress has looted millions through Monsanto from poor farmers

To siphon off the farmer's money, Sharad Pawar and sonia maino had set up a Joint Venture between Monsanto and Maharashtra Government. For 15 years these peoplelooted that money in the name of royalties!

You are partially correct. Sonia Maino (thanks for calling her by her real name) & Sharad Pawar have looted this country but not thru Monsanto. I believe Monsanto is a responsible company and they never indulge in cheating farmers.

It is doubtful whether Monsanto
by piri on Mar 06, 2016 01:20 PM  | Hide replies

will indeed pull out of India over the cut in trait fee that the government has proposed. After all, this cut represents a minor fraction of the immense profits the company has been making at the expense of tens of thousands of small and marginal farmers in India. Monsanto has been allowed a great deal of monopolistic and usurious access to the huge Indian market by both the UPA as well as the NDA governments.

But if Monsanto does pull out of India by some chance, that will indeed be a very big boon over the longer term for Indian agriculture and Indian farmers !

If NDA govt is not looting just as the UPA was, it ought to have booted out GM monopolies altogether.

GM seeds is not an idea that is being taken up anywhere in the world in a big way. India is their test laboratory in trying to perfect their technology (without any of the technology being handed over) !

Foolish Stud, you read up in some detail before responding to comments. Panting with excitement can in no way make up for lack of reading and the resultant ignorance !

So, stop panting and start reading in detail.

"GM seeds is not an idea that is being taken up anywhere in the world in a big way" - Sorry Piri, India is 5th in the world on area of agriculture under GMO crops (as of 2014). The largest is USA, then Brazil, then Argentina, then Canada.

If Monsanto pulls out, it will be loss to our farmers & companies in short term. But, we can correct this loss by encouraging good research at all levels including our Agrl Institutes in alternate technologies. This will help us in long run.
