The attitude of staff is the main problem. Outsource jobs to private players, that will end the problem. Otherwise seating arrangement and food etc. Air India is the best and it can still emerge as the best airline in India.

Make the salaries of the staff dependant on the service to the passengers and customers. The crew and staff from the checkin to baggage delivery should be on a minimum retainer with incentives dependant on the reviews collected from every user of the services of air india - passengers and cargo etc.

Air India restructuring.
by purnanandam yedavally on Jan 17, 2016 08:52 PM

So long as JRD was at the helm it had a great national and international reputation.
Todau the SERVICE of AIR INDIA at all stages of ones travel is at the very least EMINENTLY AVOIDABLE.The checkin staff, is bad enough But the in flight crew attitude is shocking.
On one of my travels I was forced to ask the stewardess why is she so sullen about the service - in business class at that.
The no of times the bread actually smelt stale - a very charitable word - is countless.
The stewardess is actually expected to likethe job and be welcoming or at least civil to the passengers- nay cuatomers. I dont recall when was the last time that happened.
In fact most Indians travel only because it is probably cheaper and no other reason.
The staff should realise that their salary comes from the passengers and they should be beholden and show gratitude to the passengers - not the other way round.
There should be a way to take a full sample survey of all the passengers and the pay of the crew should depend largely on the feedback of each flight and the crew should be only on a minimumretainer basis.

AI - Profitability
by Bharat on Jan 12, 2016 09:22 PM

1. Look at the Cost and compare the costs with other airlines. AI pilots are best paid and worst in time keeping. Airlines Mgmnt has to first look into this. Bring in younger cabin crew who get paid much lesser.
2. If Indigo can go at 84% seat utilization why is AI at 67%. Teh reason - service, punctuality, cleanliness of aircraft. Is it so difficult to copy Indigo model.
3. Improve efficiency - aircraft usage.
4. Invest in Ads, once the things change. Examples - Turkish Airlines, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar, Indigo. Why can not we follow the suite.

Wrong analysis & suggestions
by biswanath roy on Jan 12, 2016 12:43 PM

What the author writes & suggests is confusing. It is in the international routes where business seats get booked. Infact business seats on domestic routes should be done away, & be replaced by premier economy seats as in Vistara. Moreover, the bane of woes for Air India is operating flights to the north east capitals/airports. It is impossible to fill up a A320 or B737 plane comprising of 180 seats to a north east airport except Guwahati. Best solution is to airlift north east passengers from Delhi/Mumbai/Bengaluru airports to Kolkata/Guwahati or Bagdogra airport, & then fly them to their respective destinations(Agartala,Imphal, Dimapur,Aizwal, Jorhat,Dibrugarh) by ATR aircrafts. Moreover losses of operating in the non profit north east routes can be reduced by the govt by allotting more profit earning routes of south east asia & middle east to Air India. The suggestion of leasing out AI land in London, Tokyo is a good one, will be a recurring income.
