The dark side of this Industry is, it is a highly polluting Industry. All river systems get polluted. Irreversible damage is evident in many textile and dyeing areas. So called, water treatment and pollutant treatment plants exist only on paper. In Vietnam and Bangladesh there is heavy pollution, but in these countries rainfall is heavy and washes out the pollutants to the sea, however, fish catch has come down.In Tiruppur and many parts of Punjab, pollution is rampant.

Very well presented info on the threats to our textile industry. One of our least capable Ministers now in charge of generating millions of jobs and regaining global competitiveness !! Best of luck, NDA.

Where ever Ms Irani goes rediff follow her start bashing. Better divert yourself from Irani. Let she do her job. She is honest and will succeed in her job. By giving charts do you want to suggest that after taking over textile ministry the industry started going down.

"Let her do her job." Good one. That's why she was transferred to textile from HRD.

Rediff has only one mission like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt and Pseudo secular Award Wapasi Gang to tarnish image of the present government. Why they dont ask what the earlier government did for Textile Industry during their six decades of misrule ? Why they are so impatient and not prepared to give NDA and their ministers a fair chance to improve the situation in Textile Industries ? Why this bias media didnt open their mouth when a totally inexperienced lady Rabari Devi who took two minutes to sign her signature became CM of Bihar and completed her term by proxy ruling ? Dont expect immediately miracle after last ten years of totally misrule by the UPA government.

Clear indication of paid news....
by MS Vasan on Aug 19, 2016 12:39 PM  | Hide replies

The fact that the left media is harassing and criticising any NDA minister being nationalistic and doing good shows the rotten money power of the 70 years of useless congress. The parties that looted 1000s of crores from public is throwing in lakhs to left media to keep on writing bad on the new Govt ever since they got elected..The presstitutes are jumping at these lakhs like dogs jumping for biscuits and favours and write paid articles asking why Modi did not clean toilets, not pick up plastics from roads, etc..They are now keeping at it on Smiriti even after she went to another ministry..By going after Smiriti they are proving it as a clearly paid article by politicians of Amethi, because Smiriti is targetting AMethi..

Rising skills gap, falling exports, low productivity, rising debt and low foreign investment has happened in the last 2-3 weeks ever since Smiriti has taken over....NOT over 70 years of Rahul's Congress rule..Great discovery..Ha Ha Ha..
