GST to turn India into one unified market: Jaitley
by vishwanath kaushik on Aug 04, 2016 08:59 AM

Jaitley are you listening. Congratulations. On similar lines why not replace Personal Income Tax by having a TDS based direct tax against withdrawals of money from the Banks. Most of us withdraw sums from Banks to get goods/services needed by us to get benefit/satisfaction. Total withdrawal is around 1000 lakh crores (not taking into account cash transactions). A levy of 5% TDS would give an yield of 50 lakh crores with no human intervention. Actual rate could be from as little as 0.1 going upto 5%. If I have Bank Deposit of Rs.2 crores, I would be earning around 7-8% on it. Even if I withdraw Rs.1 crore to meet my personal needs, I would be required to pay TDS upto 5% on graded scale. I will be paying only 5 lakhs; while on my Deposit I would be earning as much as 7 to 8%. Fellow citizens please think it over. If in general agreement write to Jaitley to bring out a legislation on the above lines.
