Best of luck
by Sudarshan Nityananda on May 19, 2015 07:07 PM

We should wish Mr Gadkari a lot of luck for these ambitious projects and hope his financing schemes come through. His track record in Mumbai and Nagpur is great and hope he can repeat the feats at All India level.

The article gives glimpses of a well knowledgeable and educated minister who is giving his clear agenda that will turn Indian roads in to a permanent solution of pakka roads for a long time. Thanks rediff for a nice interview. Hatts off to Gadkari ji for your plans. All the best

some suggestions for planners
by srinivasamurthy a on May 19, 2015 05:14 PM

1)      Thorough cross check (by sudden secret checks) on the quality of base/sub base prepration is necessary.Lot of laxity owing to corrupt elements,or sometimes due to absence suitable materials,that were wrongly assessed during feasibility survey,leading to compromise in quality;
2)      A Strong Base/Subbase topped with concrete layer will ensure long life roads;
3)      Instead of concentrating on sateelite sytem present mega cities ,instead better to plan new cities by improving upon district headquarters in each state ,and there by decongest the mega cities;
4)      The cost of land should not cross a limit,such that the vertical (unsafe highrise buildings)and horizontal growth of a city will become meaningful.
5)      It’s better to stop further expansion of mega populated cities like New Delhi,Mumbai,Calcutta,Chennai,Bengaluru & Hyderabad;
6)      All these cities tend to gobbleup construction materials(Cement,Sand,Grit etc) themselves in the name of unnecessary flyovers,exclusive unnecessary facilities in SEZs like limited entry Gyms,d sports recreation areas etc.Instead the sports/recreation areas should be spaced in the entirety of city area such that majority shall benefit;
7)      Meaningful city limits to be set ,taking into consideration the average operable speed limits of vehicles;

One of the best ministers

Many firsts :
1) I had travelled on Nagpur- Mumbai concrete expressway - happy to note NDA is going for concrete roads - Pls note our natural resources limited in supply and whichever lasts longer is the ideal policy - why UPA or bureaucracy donot favour - because of maintance and frequent road contract involves enormous corruption.
2)An experienced business knowing minister - really good for the nation as his energy (profit) is for the nation. Marvellous idea of securitisation of tolls & return from road construction- correct why UPA did not think of such things - it needs strong will for the nation.
