Water voes

Drinking water is a big issue in India. We have lost our perenniel rivers to the perenniel wood cutters and deforestation. The villagers are eqally to be blamed for this state of affairs. It takes a tree to grow for 25 years to reach maturity which will not last as firewood even for 3 months for a household. That means a household should plant atleast 4 trees in an year and should have 100 trees in its backyard. Only rural India can help the country in this.
Singapore does not have its own source of drinking water. It gets some from Malasia and rest it re-proceses. Even sea water is processed to make it potable. Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai and other coastal town should process sea water for its requirements. Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada and Godavari should not be emptied into the sea. Water should be tapped from coastal Karnataka and Kerala and pumped into Telengana,Rayalasema, Andhra and Tamilnadu. Part of Narmada should be emptied into Chambal River.

Real Tragedy
by arvind gangoly on May 14, 2015 01:32 PM

inspite of having an entire Ministry for water Resources, most money is used to fund Govt inefficiency. A lot of NGOs are doing excellent job in drip irrigation, water harvesting and creation of percolation dams. They need to be funded and the Ministries scrapped. The Babudom couldn't care two hoots whether they are required to perform or not

Drinking Water

The article is eye opener but its heading is misleading. It depicts "as if somebody is intentionly poisoning the public at large"

Potable water

Lack of good laboratories in some states and strict implementation of standards have resulted in endemic waterborne morbidity .in former madras state comprising Andhra Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala and Karnataka the problem of fluorosis was successfully solved by identifying the areas giving comprehensive water supply increasing general nutritional levels creating awareness about water quality etc. Arsenic contamination due to natural causes has to be tackled on war footing.drinking water must be supplied at the rate of at least 5 l per day per person by lorries and by long distance piping

Less Govt, Maximum Governance ?
by joseph purathur on May 13, 2015 11:23 AM  | Hide replies

Govt should give attention to peoples' pressing problems like drinking water, clean air, livelihood issues, etc, and not on what one should eat, which film should be watched, and what time, which book should people read, etc. In fact, power generation, power distribution, water supply, community schools, etc. should be, wherever possible, left to the Users Cooperatives to handle. Govt should get out of areas where they are not required, and where people themselves can manage things better. That Govt is the best that governs the least.

Gujrat model of providing water to villagers. Bullet train, smart cities.

Can we set our priorities right and provide a dignified life to our citizens.

Part of India is Paris and some part is Ethiopia. Reduce if you can not remove such imbalance.
