"Land Grab" Bill
by sheel tankha on Jun 08, 2015 10:43 AM

Land holding in India is fragmented. Increases in agricultural productivity need larger parcels of land subjected to newer farming techniques (which is what the collectivization programs in the erstwhile USSR and China were all about).

A family of 4 had 1 acre to themselves. The two children get married and over a generation that 1 acre has to support the original 4 2 spouses and at least 4 children (and so on). Clearly this is unsustainable. The solution lies in the growth of manufacturing leading to employment away from the land/farming.

One of the major hurdles to investments in manufacturing is the uncertainty around land acquisition and the utter insecurity of contract enforcement once the land has been purchased (recall numerous sit ins, rail/rasta rokos as people demand additional compensation for land they sold as long as 20 years previously). In any other country this would be considered a joke.

The current politicization of the Land Acquisition Bill is courtesy the desire by certain political parties to ensure that there is a perpetually impoverished and hungry mass of people whom they can \"wow\" with talks of \"garibi hatao\" and the like.

It is pathetic that 68 years after independence, 67% of the population still needs to be protected with a Food Security Bill. The fact that this statistic gives the lie to various earlier claims about the virtual elimination of poverty is another matter entirely!

In The Name of Development
by sarjit saharan on Jun 08, 2015 08:33 AM

Be it BJP or Congress or any other party, it comes in power in the name achhe din aayge. Once in power it forgets everything and talks of 'earlier government had emptied the KHAZANA' whereas their own Khazana starts prospering. The word subsidy is an excuse to divert the mind of common man to help rich. Millions of ton LPG goes waste everyday, govt can financially help common man by providing pipe connection to neighboring villages and towns but it does not want a common man comfortable and out of debt especially the farmer community because thereafter no topic would be left for the govt and opposition to politicized the issue. LPG cylinders are 50 years old so where is the 100% increase in its supply cost: parties and party fund.

this govt. has nothing for people
by alwinbuilders on Jun 07, 2015 10:52 PM

this govt. has never missed an opportunity to crush common man. when crude prices are declining they raised fuel prices. when cement price were raised indiscriminately(for no reason when raw materials are cheaper because of fuel price reduction) this pro corporate govt. didn\'t take any steps to bring it back. i doubt, when they really bring their acche din here will anyone will live see this. this is not really better than last ten years. In ten years,
common man will be sold to corporat. modi\'s eloquence has won him a pm post but common is really defeated. we cant expect anything from a tour obsessed pm. those who voted for him will definitely feel bad.

BJP development figures and Congress
by Kuldeep Chandra on Jun 07, 2015 07:12 PM

Congress wishes to play a role of opposition for oppositions sake and for bringing out rational improvements in the march towards nation building. They continued to make fool of us on price rise, they kept on telling lies about spectrum and coal, power and nuclear energy, they fritted away huge amount of tax payers money in non-productive Maneraga, they failed to develop any firm remedy to prevent suicide of farmers, they made each PSU posting a matter of bargain, they allowed all black money to evaporate by now acting rapidly on SC s orders, they wished to open another line of corruption in terms of price for obtaining consent of farmers and price to obtain a favourable social audit report for the buyer etc.,

Congress has never done any substantial for the farmers and had been pro corporates through and through, mant I=tmes corporatyes have rushed to Delhi to save Congress. BJP has made for the first time a strategic symbiosis between corporates and the farmers. The big farmer are no less than a corporate and all such farmers and erstwhile rajwaras were part of congress. BJP has established a world class social security network for the farmers and poor landless workers.
The 2013 landbill was for elections and after elections both BJP and Congress led governments atre findind it difficult to implement. The consenmt cvlause is against the fundamental civil law and would braed untol corruption as no farmenr will give consenmt til ha is paid fr his consent over and above the legal compensation. Similarly there would be illegal fees that would be required to be paid to get a favourable social impact analysis report in favour of buyer of the land or the government.
VCongress will be doing an antinational work if they now restrict the land bill as Congress will estab;lish its credentials as anti development party despite lots of development it has been able to do in the past with a land bill without a consent clause.
Since land belongs to the farmer has right not given by the sovereign government, a farmer then is free to put a flag of nationality as he likes, van drill for oil for minerals as he likes, oppose canals and roads to be made as he likes/ Foolish people remain foolish

It is also not showing the results promised. More, it does not have any time target for its actions, what to talk of results, Common man is severaly affected by withdrawl of subsidies and additional taxes in the form of increased service tax even on the essential services like electricity, transportation and even restaurant bills.

BJP is not a ‘JAADU KI CHADDI’, Mr. Athreya u are very jealous man. You never think the past 60 years development, where is China and what about our India, but you very much bother about one year BJP promises. We also want changes. But we people know its not possible in one or two years. We have a good hope with BJP. They will give us a better tomorrow.

If BJP promises and does not meet them, then how is it different than other govt? BJP also wants 60 years to prove or disprove its merits! Why didn't they say in their manifesto that changes will take 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years? What about meeting promises of quick action on black money, OROP, inflation (in items of day to day use by common man like cereals, pulses, fuel, electricity)?
