What a one-sided article.

While saying and repeating the support for introducing GM technology in a big way in the country, it is deafeningly silent on the equally considerable opposition to the technology from equally distinguished quarters !

GM foods

Most of these scientists mentioned here are past their prime, probably showing signs of advancing senility especially when it comes to assessing the consequences of uncertain technologies in food sciences. Remember leading scientists of the time advocated the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and now we know of the irreversible damage these have caused to the soil of our fields, our underground water sources, and to our health. Scientific qualifications alone or honours bestowed by politicians do not guarantee infallibility in judgment.

GM food is dangerous

The author is uttering nonsense. Putting science on national agenda does not mean eating scientifically modified foods which can have life altering consequences. Nature gives us enough food to sustain life, why modify it for greed?

After using GM products for so many years, there is a big resistance in countries like U.S and Europe against it. Why? GM Soy for instance has been mostly disowned by consumers. Should we bring it to India just because some crazy scientists claim few benefits?

These mentally sick scientists will go to the extent of killing off humanity just to see the results of their experiments. This is not science, it's madness.

Fully agree with you.

There is, however, the very possible danger of this government approving such madness in the name of development.

Let's hope that sanity prevails!
