New air corridors, Nuclear power
by Bharat Kumar on Dec 19, 2015 02:28 PM

One look at the number of planes in the air and you will know who are the culprits. However efficient, the number of planes flying over Americas, Europe and now Middle east, the number just can't increase.

There is no excuse for using coal, the US, China and Europe must switch to nuclear power if they need power. They must learn how to handle nuclear power safely like Japan and France do. They cannot burn fossil fuel and ask other countries to regulate their usage, that won't happen.

Unfortunately, the current government seems to have developed a shake in its knees and has shown a classic weakness for anything foreign. The warming of the planet has to get reversed. The CSE DG is muted too, probably threatened with cutting off the funds.

To top it all, we hear American politicians saying there is no climate change! They will sink their oil, power and chemical businesses if they admit. So, they have decided to let a few countries drown in rising sea levels. It is incredible that we ask politicians their opinion. They must be told what to do instead, or thrown out of their seats if they disagree - by force if needed. That force is building up, make no mistake.

The only way India can overcome the climate challenge is

to ensure energy, water, food and border security with or, if need be, without foreign collaboration. Firstly manage our water sources well, storing the excess rain waters in any season any where by sanitizing, enlarging and deepening existing reservoirs and then interlinking rivers initially at regional levels and then nationally. Any party which blocks such developments are anti-national. Encourage vehicle pooling and improve public transport, preferably using electric buses using overhead lines. Let zilla panchayats manage district level grain and water storage and emergency shelters thru FCI, eliminate large centralized storage, encourage distributed decentralized storage.
