To talk about NGO funding. For decades together, he and his murd erous company have been funding pliable MPs, bureaucrats, newspapers, publications to keep the lid on proven medical reports of Tobacco's conclusive link to Cancer. The recent kerfuffle of a BJP Parliamentary Committee member going to town about no research being undertaken in India about the link of Cancer and Tobacco, is of a piece with this man's cover-up and confuse strategy.
Govt in Delhi is in a mood to use the undisclosed unapproved foreign funding to stop NGOs meddling in matters of importance to our country.
Selling cigarettes or other tobacco products is certainly not an important matter for the country. If entire cigarette and tobacco product sales in country is stopped forthwith, I am not sure if it will dent government's income beyond a few percentage points.
Getting people habituated to tobacco to turn away from it might just improve their health and health of their family as well.
Deveshwar should be steering ITC away from dependence on tobacco products. He had been doing this for some time now but selling cigarettes is still an attractive business for ITC and despite their best efforts thats the major bread winner.
Deveshwar may be should resign and let someone else who can steer ITC into new businesses faster to take over.

Absolutely there is no dobt about questionable and suspisous NGO funding. However, there is no denyinj that Tobacco is harmful and does irreversible damage and must be controlled in every possibleway. Many NGOs and Social Entrenrs and Soc Entrprises particularly those promoted by Haraward, Princeton public policy educated, those who got some kind of scolarships like Rhodes, etc shall have to be thouroghly examined for various wronj doinjs, misutlsns, frads and fudging, and also abuzes etc. Perhaps there could be Fundars using NGOs, Soc Entrprses for free and uncheked entryi for various purposes
“Do not kill the golden goose that lays the egg,” Whose golden goose ITCs or Government ???ITC chairman Y C Deveshwar or Governments? Who dies?? Deveshwar / Governments. People die due to your golden goose.

Kill goose vs humans...breaking news...Deveshwar chooses goose over humans
Mr. Deveswar, I am an Indian, do not smoke and hate smokers. Passive smoking is more dangerous than active smoking. Please stop producing and marketing Cigarettes in the country. Let ITC be in some other good business. Please do not kill people for making money. If you continue you would not be any better than a buccaneer.

Ban them completely, except for medical purposes. People rendered unemployed or their qualified dependents can be inducted into fields like medical services, housekeeping services and even law-enforcing services which can control and curtail all counterfeit market which ought to be the main worry than worries of a cigar company.
Come on Deveswar! Most of the learned Indians and the financial world have admiration and much higher opinion about you and much higher expectations from you. You should not go to the level of NGOs politics. It is undoubltedly a fact that every right thinking man or woman on earth knows cigarettes must go out of production and circulation sooner than later for the good of mankind and NGOs who propagate this message with foreign or indian or no funding deserves to be appreciated. People like me who have witnessed the shift of ITC from a cigarettes company to an FMCG and other businesses have been highly appreciative of your efforts to give new direction to ITC. So you must graciously admit that ITC needs to set targets and move slowly and steadily to reduce cigarettes to less than 10% revenue in the next ten years and diversify into agri and FMCG, tourism and newer businesses that ITC is not in already. Only that will make us proud of you and you deserving of the honours that the Govt has already bestowed on you. For heaven's sake let us not lose sight of our responsibility to mankind in our pursuit of corporate profits

@Narayanan Subramanian: Should I list the names of the people from your community and associated with NGOs funded by foreign agencies who are working to disrupt Indian economy.
