this paragraph is written twice.

"Social networks like Twitter and Facebook have been buzzing with people campaigning that policy makers should not allow telecom companies to charge extra fees for Internet services or provide preferential access to certain apps. "

Am I getting something wrong? Could somebody explain what is this net neutrality? There are two kinds of people now

1. Without internet access - that runs into several millions
2. With internet access- that also runs into several millions, however, obviously the first group is larger (as far as India is concerned)

Unless, somebody chose to signup for say, Airtel Zero, the ones in the second group are not going to be impacted i.e. they can access whatever they want, and all of the apps will remain accessible i.e net neutrality will be there.

Anyway, if the first group can get something for free, rather than having no access, isn't that better for that group? The 2nd group seems to be crying on behalf of the 1st group (for reasons best known to them in the name of net neutrality), while the 1st group remains unaware of the possibility of even getting limited internet access, because all this is happening in a world, they anyway don't have access to. Could somebody explain pl - I am genuinely interested in understanding, so no bad mouthing please?

Actually Mr Gopal you have got it fundamentally wrong. First of all there aren't two groups of people as you suggest, because this issue only concern with your second group. Now I'll try my best to explain it, but I could be a bit wrong as its a complex issue.
If you see today these telecom companies or ISP's charge us users money to use the internet, this charge is called data charge. Now the problem is that when we use applications like Whatsapp, Viber, HIke etc which have feature like VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), then they potentially cut into the profits of these telecos. So these telecos have come up with an idea of increasing there profits by making some of these companies a subscriber of there plan and in turn charging no data cost to access these subscribed apps and services from the customer. Now it all sounds good up-till now, but the problem starts to occur when as a purchaser of an airtel zero kind of scheme - you try to use services of apps that aren't subscribed to airtel's zero plan. What will then happen is that the internet user will either not get access to those apps, websites or services, or will be charged exorbitant amount of money over and above those data charges. So in a way these telecos will control what and how you access the internet.

I can tell you this.

The first group is blessed for they are doing something constructive.

The second group (majority of them) mostly is not using the internet access but abusing it, doing nothing creative in the process.

Note: Laughter is good.

The scheme is like pick pocketing. Each telephone service provider wants higher return to make up the cost they incurred in getting the spectrum recently.

While telephone companies have a right to charge you more to realise their investment, we are not prepared to shell out more.

Wait for sometime and you will be required to pay more for elctricity, steel and all products that are power intensive units as power cost is going to see sharp rise because of coal block allocation.

It is a win win situation for government and loose loose situation for all Indians.
