Let us calculate quantity of fuel burnt for travelling say, 1000km in Delhi in a month. New diesel vehicles claim 24 kmpl, say 20 kmpl in city running conditions, so fuel consumed will be 50 litres diesel. Petrol cars will give 15 -16 kmpl in city running conditions, so fuel consumed will be about 65 litres. So it is 50 litres of diesel versus 65 litres of petrol. Which will pollute more ??? CSE should work on the basis of fuel consumed (ie pollution generated per km). The tribunal should consider unbiased data.
