We have been observing the western ghats over the years. The cauvery and tungabhadra river catchment areas have constant rainfall and not much changes. It does not rain excessively. It rains just sufficient and or just below sufficient. The monsoons are lifeline for south India.

I do few things to avoid such big natural disaster: 1. Greener building (no AC) 2. Greener transport (Non Ac, gas based and use of cycle for covering nearest places). 3. Least use of resources like water, electricity and others. 4. More plantation.
We will have to change our life style or nature will change us.
