All the comments looks personal. It is Travel Guide recommendation for the Tourists not for living in. Tourism which are many varieties. Business tourists,Health and medical tourists , Religious tourists, Cultural tourists, Educational Tourists,Sports Tourist. If you consider this Chennai fits better then Other big cities in India. 1. Chennai is Dirty - Be realistic guys which city in India is clean. Did anyone can stay in Mumbai without the gutter smell and the people toileting in the Railway track. Bengaluru, is it a cosmopolitan city?. Does it have any cultural heritage and is it clean. Please guys tell me the clean metropolitan city and i can show you a lot more dirty. 2. Does any Metropolitan city in India has a good beach like Marina. ( the Beach in Mumbai is only mud). 3. Does any Metropolitan city in In India has a cultural background as of Mahabaliburam. 4. Food is Cheap. 5. People They don't speak Hindi. But you can manage with English. 6. The Temperature is hot and Humid. But winter is fine to visit. 7. Living is cheaper then other big cities. 8. Safe compared to other cities. etc. etc...
A walk in the Marina beach in a fine evening will make you feel worth.

please add the following too. This is the city priding itself with best of cultural and fine arts activities more than any city in Asia. The hospitality quotient of an ordinary Tamilian is much better than any other city. He will accompany you to show the place you want to reach if required and no 'seethe jhav' business. the temples, mosques and churches are old, lively and very interesting to see. airport, seaport, bus station and the railway terminals all well within the city limits and easily reachable by road and rail.And last Tamil a 6000 year old and spoken, written classic language need not play a second fiddle to any other language and Hindi particularly because of numbers.

An excellent example of once upon a time a beautiful city......now dirtiest and most stinking city in the world where people love to live like that without revolting. Electing the same highly corrupt DMK and AIDMK government. Living in stinking and dirtiest environment has become a way of life for Chennaities. How come the writer claim thatCHennai is the best city to live.....Guess he has not gone to see Adayar Rivier....not a river anymore but drainage river along with awful stink.....!!! Has the writer seen the heaps of garbage dump on every street corner of Chennai where it is not cleaned for weeks to gether....!!

CHENNAI IS THE WORST CITY AMONG METROS IN INDIA. MAY BE JUST AHEAD OF KOLKATA OR CALCUTTA.
IT IS A NIGHTMARE FOR A PERSON WHO DOES NOT SPEAK TAMIL. REAL NIGHTMARE.
EVEN THE BUS CONDUCTORS , WHEN YOU SPEAK IN ENGLISH OR HINDI, THEY LITERALLY ABUSE YOU. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION . THESE BUS CONDUCTORS ARE CIVIL SERVANTS RIGHT ? I MEAN PUBLIC EMPLOYEES.
