JNU jholavalas can only come up with simple minded schemes
by Rainmaker on Oct 22, 2014 10:14 PM

Communism is such a simple, romatic concept. Everyone is equal.Does it work? No. Yes, JNU jholavalas are pushing MNREGA, which is a similarly useless concept. Let's allow corporate farming and see jobs being created in rural areas.

have obviously not spent any time in the real world.

Talk to any farmer and he will tell you how NREGA has ruined her.

But this is exactly what the aim and motive behind NREGA was. Nothing surprising.

What is surprising is the denseness of Indian sepoys.

Every country needs a similar scheme for less skilled wokers
by Bharat Soni on Oct 20, 2014 09:07 PM  | Hide replies

This scheme ensures that every family earns the rotis for their family. And the beneficiaries of this scheme is poor laborers, unemployed people and even farmers who are on the verge of committing suicide. Unlike rich countries, we do not provide them unemployment benefits or even food stamps and shelter. What will these people do if this scheme is revoked? Do we want more beggars on the street?

Importance of NREGA is not in employment, skills or economic benefits, but in social engineering potential. It is the first time in history that money goes to a poor Indian without first being handled by utterly rude, cruel and corrupt persons.

Bank accounts for online transfer threaten the scope to exploit. Poor learn the feasibility of escape from clutches of officials. This is independent of efficiency of implementation though there must have been some corruption in NREGA as usual.

That is the reason for vehement criticism of NREGA. Government contractors complain that poor get paid directly and are not so easy to catch for underpaid work as contract labor at 25% of prescribed minimum wage.

NREGA was the clever thought of an Italian mind to motivate poor Indians against vast pyramid of corrupt officials in cahoots with private contractors. For Indian poor not used to real relief from exploitation, it is electrifying to learn that they are not totally helpless.

NREGA has nothing to do with economics, GDP, growth, inflation, etc., but is a way to upset class domination. Extreme right wing bigoted conservatives in power can not let such things continue.

Prevention of corruption is government's or social responsibility. The scheme guarantees the employment to the grassroot poorest of the poor to survive, for which there is no other scheme. Skill development is another issue which should be taken care of by another scheme.

Similarly a way must be created to deliver informal primary and pre primary education to poorest persons on as is where is basis without handling by corrupt and cruel officialdom.

Tiny educative video modules, devices, toys, mechanisms, mobile Applications, and the like could be delivered physically to poor students, without involvement of officials. If that is done then the five thousand years old ban on education of lower Indians could be defeated.

what are you smoking, dear??

India had the most egalitarian system of education until white Xians came.

If brahmins kept knowledge to themselves, how did the first white man learn the Vedas and other Sciences (astronomy, rockets, metallurgy, medicine and so on)???

Stop getting brain-washed, and start to think. You will find it liberating.

Good effort at creating awareness
by AUGUSTINE DIAS on Oct 20, 2014 11:30 AM

This article may be a good effort at creating awareness, but desperately falls short of providing a solution to the problems. India has had problems with implementing such welfare schemes for ages or should I say had problems with firstly reaching out to the section of people whom it is meant for & secondly keeping the corrupt out of such schemes which includes the politicians, bureaucrats, middlemen & local goons, Indian Govt,s so far has failed miserably in achieving the task of reaching out for their basic needs to such people, leave aside the cause of developing skills, First, give them the foundation to grow & then talk about making them earn their livelihood

Why it is time to scrap NREGA Text size: A A A
by Prabhakar Waghodekar on Oct 20, 2014 10:15 AM

Since our freedom in 11947, Indian corruption is progressively increasing. Some are directly benefitted through scams and mediators through various schemes in the name of public welfare.Such attitude is present in all sectors education to NREGA. In some regions 50%b funds are grabbed by politicians, etc., and 50% goes to public, in some regions nothing goes to public, and in some other regions entire funds plus public money (say 10%) goes to mediators. Schemes like NREGA neither develop skills, nor make public self-supporting, etc., on the contrary we make the public more ignorant, set the mind mai-baap sarkar to rescue, etc. Only we give the lip service but no clean action. What is literacy rate, school drop outs, low per capita income (in 2025 India will have per capita income @ Rs 3500 pm, and China almost @ 14000 pm.), and so on? I pray: keep the nation first, other things are secondary. Else ....

Good one indeed
by Alekha Mohanty on Oct 20, 2014 10:03 AM

This is a very timely article his tries to point fingers towards inefficiency and lack of vision in the public policy. It could have been further beneficial with some engaging information though. However, the point is proved that opportunities be created for a sustainable recovery of the poor by educating and skilling them rather making them perennially dependent on public money. This, not only jeopardise the rural agricultural system (in fact it is apparent now) but at the same time put their future generation in obscure. Of course, nobody wants the petty farmers be doing the conventional agriculture; to get the minimum subsistence, but to get more hike in their annual income by diversifications of works, profession and products. In the long run this will help reduce the inequalities in income distribution (which is acute now). The article is well directed to create more awareness and researches in these directions.

That there is so much resistance to freebies. MNREGA is not about feeding poor. Its about keeping people poor. We have clearly seen that this scheme has produced no results except higher wages because people now dont have to work for a living. As modi really asks.. where is the asset created from spending of billions? if you say that poor should not work to get a living.. then this scheme is fine.
The main problem for poor people in the lowe caste is the rich people from the lower castes.

Mr Rajive , I am very sure that you are only the bookish person , and never worked on daily wages, so you never understand the pain of being poor, You are very much worried about tax payer money , like they are only funding nation and running this nation. And of course you belong to top community who believes that every one should be your servant available at very cheep price to clean your toilets. The main benefiter of this great & noble scheme are those who came from lower cast, hence that is the main reason to oppose this scheme. Your all blog is due to shear prejudice mindset of typical upper case. If government will even try to close this scheme, BJP will be washout for ever from this country. Your logics of giving funds is completely fake and the amount which is spent on MANEREGA is very much less that the subsidy which is given to Diamond merchants, where nobody put any question mark.
So I request you please do not try to full public. Closure of MANEREGA means increasing slums in the Major City's. It will lead to more disastrous problems to planed urbanization, social economical structure.
Ravi Kumar.
