Bajaj and Birla
by Sabyasachi Sarkar on Oct 09, 2014 08:52 PM

Bajaj and Birla did more disservice to India than service. They stifled the growth of Indian auto industry when other Asian nations were lagging far behind.

Rahul and N D Tiwary
by as lal on Oct 09, 2014 02:33 PM

when Rahul applied for license to start Aurangabad plant, N D Tiwary asked him to come to UP.Rahul contemptuously said UP is bad place for manufacturing.NDT replied,"you are not successful because of your ability, but because we don,t allow competition,so listen tu us,Rahul didn,t nd NDT brought in Vepsa back through Lohia. The 100 crore plus booking amount which Lohia generated made Rahul realise his mistake, but it was late. The day Hero Honda produced more two wheelers than Bajaj, every body in Bajaj Auto had tear in eyes.

Its a paid story;

HOW BAJAJs AND BIRLAs CHEATED EVERY INDIAN
by Kabeer on Oct 09, 2014 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

Bajaj (Scooters) and Birlas (Ambassador) were given market protection for decades by the Govt thereby depriving every Indian to save on expensive fuel and high technology.

Market was assured for Bajajs and Birlas and hence there are no marketing costs which is a high expense in any part of the world for automotive industry.

But what did the Bajajs and Birlas do?

They don't invest a single rupee in R&D and improve the quality of the product. Since markets are assured they pocketed all the profits by selling junk to Indian customers and the Govt played ball with them all in the name of protectionism.

Now the same class of people who criticise Govt for every evil in this country calling it license raj etc.,. are the actual beneficiaries of the so called license raj. When PV Narasimha Rao opened the markers for world competition so that Indian customers can get better products, these people formed a club called Bombay Club and asked for further protectionism.

Compare it with South Korea:

SOuth Korea too got independence around the same period India got its. South Korea too followed similar policies giving protectionism to Hyudais, Daewoos, Samsungs, LGs just like India did to Birlas, Bajajs and Tatas.

But Hyundais, Samsungs, Daewoos pumped profits back into R&D and produced near world class products.

Ditto with Toyotas & Hondas in Japan. They sought only 10 year protectionism in 70s.

Bajaj even today relies upon Kawasaki tech and has nothing to boast its own

In Jamshedpur, mu friend bought Chetak, and the stepny tyre wore out after 150 kms of running.when he contacted dealer he was told rubber parts don,t have warranty. After two years he got a letter from dealer to come with receipts. When he contacted the dealer he was refunded about 250 Rs., which dealer was over charging. Some one had filed court case ,won after many years of litigation, and every one was refunded.
