We need improvement in all areas of our entire railway system. Safety, cleanliness, coaches, food, etc., are major among them. I do not think with existing facilities, we can ever think of running high speed trains. There is no harm using FDI provided it is implemented in the interest of the nation. Safety : Safety must be the prime thrust area so far as running bullet/high speed/even slow speed trains are concerned. In the first instance, I feel that all railway stations must be modernized and protected from unwanted entries. Persons without proper tickets/identity must not be allowed entry at railway stations/trains so as to ensure that safety of railway assets/passengers’ lives are not compromised. Now, the story is that any body could enter any railway facility without any check and could cause untold harm to railway facilities. Further, the tracks must be modernized and latest technology must be adopted so as to ensure that the concerned officials get timely warning to be cautious. Only then we can run high speed trains on the existing tracks. Further, there should be no compromise so far as passengers’ safety from anti-social elements is concerned.

Coaches: Most of the coaches of many high profile trains like Shatabdi, Rajadhani, etc., are in very shabby condition. There is no proper cleaning of toilets; water availability is not ensured; sometimes even the compartments with no lights/fans are used. There is no one to listen to the miseries of passengers. Cleaning needs a lot of improvement, whether it is in stations or in trains. It is another area completely neglected. Food: The worst thing about facilities/services in trains is the food supplied. The caterers do not stick to any standard while preparing foods. So far as serving food in trains is concerned, I feel that no food item should be cooked in trains. Facility for cooking foods must be made in all important railway stations itself and based on advance orders received, the caterer must prepare food items; pack them and handover when the train reaches the respective station. Concerned authorities must ensure that cleanliness, quality, etc. are strictly adhered to while preparing foods at these locations. The pantry car should be kept neat and clean and only tea/coffee must be allowed to be prepared there. Further, no LPG should be used inside the trains instead industrial type induction based cooking must be allowed for which necessary provision must be made in pantry cars. Cleanliness/quality must be the top most priority after safety. In case we strictly follow these simple things, there are chances that the railway facilities would get a real b
Guys instead of cribbing and bashing, let us all make a concrete effort to sanitise. Let us instead of lecturing others throw awya garbage in the proper place, keep our surroundings clean. I know it gets tiresome when we find that while we try to maintain cleanliness others nonchalantly throw their garbage in our front yard. But if we teach our children and set examples, they in turn teach their friends (it is easier to teach children than adults), I think something may come out.

I appreciate the efforts of railways and wish to have the facility and look of coach in all trains like this.Hats off to the authorities and wish them all success.

U can at least travel but refrain from eating or drinking even tea ! I saw that & how they r using toilet waters for cooking!
Well reserve all latest and best coaches for Northern side where ticket-less-travel is order of the day. And send back all used and screwed bogies to Southern side where TTEs enforce discipline like Kings.

Well said dude. I have opted for state transport even though the train is comfortable, faster and economical. I have survived a journey to the north of my state in Chennai superfast in sleeper class and stood all the way as the seats where crawling with cockroaches. There is rat infestation in both 2 and 3 tier classes. Rusted rods and torn seats. I changed three bogeys and all were infested to the same level. thousands of cockroaches. Opened the tap of washbasin and instead of water (no water), cockroaches started to emerge. We buy tickets and all the money goes to north. Even our Rajadhani has the oldest, stinkiest bogeys. I seriously don't feel like an India at times. Painfully, my mind didn't let me vote, will not probably in future too if we are not accepted as Indians like rest of the nation.

Completely agree with Manoharan on this. However I am hoping that things will change a little bit with a Railway minister from the south now.

Absolutely true. The paying public of the South always get a step-motherly treatment. Used and spoiled bogies are used in trains running in/to South.
First of all, lock the toilets of train, when the train is in the platform of any station.Every Indian stations is full of_shit! Its horrible. How shameless are we.No developed country allows people to pee_or_shit when the train is on any station.
