The accounts deptt. Of Air india seems to be corrupt which in paper show inflated loss specially parts purchsed in engineering deptt, besides inflated number of employee which can be solved by MBA - HRD.

AIRINDIA TURN AROUND
by asli mumbaikar on Aug 30, 2014 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

THERE ARE TWO news ITEMS in today's rediffmail news on AI....1-Rs100 tkts and 2-how to turn around AI.
Can an Airline expect to turn around when tkts are priced at Rs100? Why does the Govt/Regulator not step in when tkts are priced at suicidal rates? it must be priced at break-even rate-@75% load.
AI is not the vahan of Govt, ie Ministers and employees.Fares must be demanded and paid. The rescue missions cost money but Govt only interested in Publicity. Why not collect fares from them???
The staff must accept that they are there to serve and not quote rules to the fliers.
Why shd AI put up paxes in 5 star hotels, if flight is delayed? This cost is not included in the tkt fare..even notionally.
I have travelled by Rlys in first class and not even once, was I put up in a hotel or compensated for delays. Why preferential treatment to fliers??
Pilots and other crew, if late or drunk must be warned and if they repeat then they must be dismissed.
Pragmatism is necy and not degrees from rated universities.

"The staff must accept that they are there to serve and not quote rules to the fliers". This is the problem with Govt services, think that they are rulers, there for imposing rules and not for serving the people who pays money including their salaries.

Any service industry doesn't require any sort of "union" which are self centric and not people centric

Why indigo is growing faster doing the same work as AirIndia does.? Means either Air India management is not totally professional as it is headed by administrators for 3 yrs.asking a lay man to run a pure technical business. If the pilot in cockpit is babu? How plane will take off?

PSU?
by Shyam Sunder on Aug 28, 2014 04:40 PM

This is basically a PSU and supposed to serve the people with least profit. Instead they forgot service and wanted to make as much money as possible. Most of the passengers are government employees who pay government money to government PSU - this is not any real business. MLAs and MPs travel free and CMs and PMs have special flights. If they can offer fuel taxes surcharge Rs.100 tickets for one week, what stops them offering similar facility for Rs.500 and compete with private players? Nobody can rescue such people and even attempting such is wasteful exercise.

The problem of India
by Dattaprasad Prabhu on Aug 27, 2014 12:23 PM

Nowhere in the advanced and prosperous world, Hotels, Railways, Air-transport etc... are run by the Govt. Summing up the amount that the Govt has infused in the form of equity or anything during the period of its nationalization past 1955 through the public exchequer, you will come to the conclusion that Air India is a problem to the nation India.

AI
by arungopal agarwal on Aug 27, 2014 10:26 AM

Biggest problem is unwanted staff, around 7000 surplus people, cost of staff is IInd main issue, even a class IV employee costs it around Rs.40000 p.m. Govt does not have solution due to rigid labour laws and unions. PPP is the only solution.

For all its years in existence, AI has continued to exist only beacuse of massive subsidies from the federal treasury...the excuse wa that it was a public service.
Now with any number of airlines doing a much better job, why is this money-hemmorghaging behemoth stil in existence???

Flight atttendants

cabin crew must look good.slim, charming and pleasant. rival asian airlines cabin crew are very good and this is where they seem better.

also maybe saree needs to be replaced. long skirt and long sleeved tunic or shalwar-khameezh.
also ground staff need to have a sense of urgency and purpose to get things moving and sorted if there is a problem.
(for all this ,dont look at european airlines anymore..look at asian airlines and their ways)

Nobody boards flight merely to see cabin crew. People move in flight for some important work.

Air India
by Sheetal Kaur on Aug 26, 2014 11:53 PM  | Hide replies

Air India needs to look at three vital points.
1st and most Important TIMING, Air india needs to learn that gone are the days when delay was acceptable, world now i moving fast and every one needs to be at their destination in time, many a big deals get lost due to bad timing costing companies millions in loss.
2, On flight food, How many times one had stale food and out dated snacks on the flight.
3, Clean planes.
4, Service with a smile, Most of the time one will find flight attendants miserable.
5, If for any reason flight does get delayed, Inform the passengers, after all they pay the fair and Air India's profit is the customers pocket. If delay happens to be overnight put the passengers in a hotel and not leave them stranded in the airports boarding halls.
5, Make sure luggage arrive for collection in time.
6, Don't divert direct flights with a stop over. ( many a time I have booked a flight with Air India direct non stop to London), then suddenly announcement come, We are taking an unscheduled stop over for few hours at Mumbai. This type of service un acceptable. Only reason I can see for this is that some Minister is on board and needs to reach mumbai, thus an unscheduled stop over.
These are just few reasons there are many more those can be highlighted.
For Air India to survive costumer care should be of prime Importance.
I stopped flying Air India due to delays and final straw was they lost my luggage, costing thousands of pounds in lost luggage and assignment.

Except point 4 , i can jot agree with any. I fly 3 return flights in a year, all AI. Do not remember being delayed significantly, many times we reach early. Food in Air India is best, no complaint.the seats are improved too. Only problem is flight attendants, mostly rude but there are better people too. They are not for flirting etc. but i have long crossed that age,
