by pcroyghatak on Apr 11, 2014 01:25 PM

There should not be any fear in any body or any co's mind that MOdi Govt will work in Partitian way. If tesco has fair model of business ---NDA/BJP will allow them to do in India

Modi means business
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Apr 11, 2014 05:41 AM

Modi will mean business when it comes to overseas retail. He will make India competitive at every level, and there is no need for foreign direct investments in the retail sector. Modi is not a procrastinating socialist like Indra, Rajiv and Rahul to keep India poor for ever.

won't allow foreign supermarkets to enter the country
by aparna bhardwaj on Apr 10, 2014 03:37 AM  | Hide replies

is a very good idea.
Because Indian supermarkets must learn those ways and beat them at their game and then open in those foreign countries. Yes, India must export Indian superstores instead!
We have the most cunning industrialists, best brains, the shrewdest managers, super duper IT people, an investing public and a cheap work force. Voila, we win hands down!
So where does 'foreign' enter the Indian picture. It enters when decision makers are gifted money into swiss and such banks. Kids n spouses of such people become NRI, have houses and flats all over the world with Hummers n Jags, while their hunger grows for more.

by brian crasto on Apr 09, 2014 09:11 PM  | Hide replies

It seems just like the industrialists the media is projecting Modi as PM canditate. It seems like indians are fair weather friends. Sad part. Atleast the media should be impartial. Dont estimate the power of the common man the tables may get turned

Modi win is blow for Tesco but good for investors
by Hebbar R on Apr 09, 2014 06:29 PM

A lot is being said about FDI in various sectors. Sure, a lot of FE would flow in once these issues are cleared. But, from where will India get FE to service these investments? By more FDI? SO, the solution would surely be exports. An area that the "Economist" PM and his "super advisors" never developed.

FDI
by Anand on Apr 09, 2014 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

A master stroke by BJP here. By not allowing FDI is retail:
1. They get votes of small shop owners.
2. Congress can't claim BJP opposed FDI in retail when in opposition and passed it in power when BJP comes to power.
3. One of the most interested was Walmart. Walmart was pushing USA govt which was pushing Indian govt. This will be a blow to Walmart and USA.
4. It sends a message to USA that 'what you sow is what you reap'.
USA completely ignored Modi and thought he will never become PM. Now, it will regret such a step.
I hope India-China relations improve. It can put an end to USA's dominance in the world.

It is not only a master stroke but also an honest approach. The FDI in retail will create white elephants and Frankentseins like WalMart and Tesco.
