Why should the taxpayers feed the babus of the sick oil refineres. We are anyway importing crude. Let the govt. remove all duties and restrictions in importing petrol and diesel, and let anyone import refined petrol & diesel.
Petrol will be available at 50 RS per litre, even if we levy 25% tax at the pump price. Maldives imports 100% with 0% subsidy. Petrol costs eq. of INR 50 there, even after hefty profits by the importers and 25% tax by govt.

Issue here is level playing field for local operations. If import duty on petroproducts is to be removed, there must be CVD and VAT on imported products to balance excise and sales tax on local products.
