What about common man?
by Grizzly on Aug 13, 2013 04:56 PM

It is good to know that India is growing but what about the common man?

political leaders and rich people want to keep it in swiss banks and not share it with us.

Why dont these leaders and business people keep this money inside India? At least they can lend it back to us at a little interest?

Would they help the common man in any way?

If the way we are progressing. No law and order, Netas and their relative looting billions, aam aadmi dying on street, working class paying taxes and goverment distributing free food..... than even if India becomes number 1..... we dont want it. I would rather live in world 100the economy if it is safe to live and earn a decent living.

misleading article-
by R Kumar on Aug 13, 2013 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

Article clealy says India at number 3 in nominal GDP. and no 3 at purchasing power parity.
According to same standard, 32 Rs in India is equal to 1.25 USD( as per Mr Amratya sen and Montek singh alhuwalia), while the artical mentions the US nominal GDP, they have mentioned China and India on PPP( some calculated factor) numbers on GDP

another misleading article...

by dead-brains of rediff... india stands at something like 140th per capita gdp both nominal and purchasing power method...
even real gdp is only 1.9 trillion despite size/population of india...
but chest thumping idiotic Indians as usual can start jumping with joy thinking india is world's 3rd largest economy where as 90% population lives below poverty...

in any case your statement that 90% of Indian population is below poverty is not correct. Show one authntic source from some international orgfanizations like iMf, woorld bank, etc. world bank categorizes us under middle income contries and not under poor income countries. I agree we are very poor but your statement that 90% of Indians are under poveryty is foolish and can be made by any illeterate. You anger made you to write this foolish statement.

according to world bank, india's 32.67% of population are under poverty line, if 1.25 US$ is taken as the income of one person for one day. If indian Govt calculation is considered then it is about 27%

the word "real gdp" has no real sense. It depends on individual's thinking of what is real gdp.If you consider cost of living as the creteria, then PPP of inida is 4.8 trillion US dollars. If you just convert the total income of India into US dollars then the GDp of India is 1.9 trillion US$ only. But the later is not correct for majority of people, because a dollar in USA is like 15 to 20 rupees in India in terms of purchasing power of Rupee in India, though one actually gets 60 rupees for a us dollar. For international trade , of course, nominal gdp is important. But for 97% of Indians, international trade is meaningless, so the real gdp is 4.8 trillion, and not 1.9 trillion us dollars man! Understande this well!
